My harness has open tugs and they have been no problem with my current cart which has straight shafts. I’ve ordered a new cart and the shafts on it are slightly curved. Will I be cursing my open tugs every time I try to put the cart to my donkey with the open tugs?
Where do the shafts end? By point of shoulder or saddle? Open tugs should be fine for long shafts ending at the point of shoulder in both straight or slightly curved types.
Very hooked, deeply curved shafts as seen on old Gigs, would need a different style tug, that holds the shaft in place by tightening around the wood. Those tugs are French or Tilbury tugs.
Short shafts ending at the saddle, need a closed loop end and quick release tug loops to prevent short shafts falling out of the tug loops. Such short shafts are seen on modern vehicles used in CDEs.
Perfect, thank you goodhors! The slightly curved shafts will end at the point of her shoulder so I should be okay.
Thank you CERT! You have a cute donkey
You’re welcome! I wish she was mine! Belongs to a client and I’m having fun putting the driving miles on her now that she’s in the cart.
