I know an actual stable bandage is best, but what quick wrap type set ups do people like? I think the Boomer Bandages were first (or early) to the market, but there are a bunch now. Any input?
I have Premier Equine quick wraps. I really like them. They have interchangeable pillow parts, so you can have regular, magnetic, or ceramic.
It’s about $120 or so for a set of four. I would size up. My 16.2hh OTTB gelding wears medium in the front (perfect fit) and medium behind (slightly too small.)
The only ones I’ve used are the Back on Track ones, which I quite like. They seem to prevent my horse stocking up.
2nd the BOT Quick Wraps. We use them all winter for Mr. Delicates cold legs and footsies.
I second the Premiere Stable Boot wraps (got them from Smartpak). They held up great for wrapping during stall rest and my horse’s legs didn’t feel overly warm using them.
Alright, two contenders!
Any thoughts on which is easier to use? Are BoTs too hot for summer temps?
Really looking for something easy in case wrapping is needed when the sitter is here. Figure if I have something ready to go, no wrapping will be needed.
How well do the Premiere Equine Stable Boots stay up? Do they get slouchy or loosen over time?
I’m looking for an alternative to shipping wraps or shipping boots for trailering, and my horse is very particular about hind legwear being snug/not shifting. Curious if these could be the ticket.
IMO BoTs are too hot for summer temps! That’s why I’m curious about the Premiere option.
I like the logic on buying the wraps so as not to tempt fate! I hope that strategy works for you.
I really like the DuraTech Rapid No-Bow Wraps from Schneider’s! Super easy to use and they don’t tend to get too hot in my experience - I use them as an alternative for standing wraps for shipping.
I have some knock off BOT stable boots and they’re great but there are times when heating up the legs isnt what I want to do.
When I dont want the ceramic wraps I use Vacs combo wraps. They’re awesome. I first used them when I was boarding my horse and had to entrust his bandaging to others. They’re very, very easy to apply.
Another contender enters the arena
How well do those stay up? Do they slide down the leg? The Premier Equine and BOT ones have a strap that goes under the fetlock, almost like sports medicine boots vs the straight across straps on those SSTack ones.
Oooh, here’s another SSTack version that looks interesting, too!
Ohhhh, those looks SUPER interesting with the single large panel of velcro. More idiot proof (not saying at all that my sitter is, but the easier the better, ya know?) You ever have any problems with other people putting them on or sliding down? Hrm, this thread isn’t nearly as complimentary Can’t we all just like the same stuff?
My Premier wraps don’t slip down, even on my horse who kicks out the first few steps when he’s wearing hind boots/wraps. They stay pretty still when hauling and in his stall.
I was hesitant to get the BOT ones because I didn’t really want ceramic wraps on his legs when it’s already hot outside (I use the wraps for hauling to shows, etc.) The Premier ones are regular pillow wraps but you can get ceramic ones and swap them out, so it’s basically a cheaper BOT quickwrap. The interchangeable wrap parts are maybe $40?
That’s awesome feedback, thank you!
And, ordered. Wooo! The PEI site is having a sale on some of this stuff, so if anyone needs mediums or XLs, here you go!
https://www.premierequine.co.uk/sale-stable-boot-wraps-c2x28390318
The nano infared liners are also available in small and XL:
https://www.premierequine.co.uk/sale-nano-tec-infrared-boot-wrap-liners-c2x28391583
(Sorry, I must have snagged the last pair of mediums)
I picked up the boots for front and hind plus one set of infrared liners for just over 100 bucks, including shipping. Score!
This either means that the horses will be 100% fine and require no wrapping while I’m gone, or that the order will be delayed and arrive the day we get back.
@Simkie I actually tried the Vacs wraps before I found the Schneider’s. I ended up returning them because the single piece of Velcro made it too difficult to get the wrap snug in the right areas IMO. The schneider’s wraps stay up really well. They’re pretty idiot proof, and the four straps let you really get a good fit all the way down the leg.
That’s good to know! I’ve bought the Premier boots, but will keep the Schneider’s in mind
The order from Premier shipped and should be here FRIDAY. How crazy is that?? Order a product from the UK on Tuesday and get it on Friday for like 15 bucks shipping. What a crazy world we live in
