Quillin's Turnout or Sale Halter?

I’m looking to replace my gelding’s halter. I read that their track halters are heavy duty and not intended for everyday use. For those of you with Quillin’s leather halters, do you get the turnout or sale halter?

It would be for everyday and shows (we primarily do schooling shows). It would not be left on during turnout or out in the weather.

I have both. The turnout is fairly basic with just a single, unstitched nose and and cheek. The sale is a beautiful halter, triple stitched and a lovely show halter, but I use mine for everyday use.

I would choose the sale halter.

I bought a turnout halter about 1.5 years ago, and it has lasted well. I have now used it on two weanlings, and it still looks good. Not fancy, but very adjustable, comfortable, and good leather.

I have both, too, and both hold up and stay nice for years. My preference is for the sale halter, just because I like the look of it. Quillins halters are THE BEST, imho. My brother lives just outside Paris, KY, and I go every year when I stay there for Land Rover. Because the halters last so long, I only gaze longingly. I also have a dog collar I got 7 years ago from them that is still going strong on my dog.

I have the turnout halter, fully adjustable(buckle chin strap and buckles on both sides of the crownpiece). I also special ordered it in 3/4” leather bc my horse has a fairly refined head. I actually prefer them not to be triple stitched, but that’s just me. I’m weird.

Anyways, I’ve used it everyday for right at a year now, including bathing(not all the time, but sometimes I forget to swap it out), and it’s still beautiful and supple. I don’t clean it nearly as much as I should.

Either way, you can’t go wrong with Quillin. They are amazing.

Also, same with the dog collars. My pup has had hers for…6 or 7 years now? It’s still beautiful…and I never clean it. Lol.

I have several of their turnout halters and they wear beautifully. I ordered one of their round leather dog collars for the dog with the Very. Delicate. Skin. and he has never had a reaction to it. He’s worn it for years.

Quillin is worth every single penny.

Ditto on both the halters and dog collars!

The turnout halters are single ply, but quality leather than holds up well for every day. The sale halters are a bit heavier, and what I like for a show halter. Get their nameplates, too, the quality is fantastic!

Quillin will also custom assemble a halter for you … Socks needed on that was in between sizes so the took parts from two different sizes to make his… I do not know if there was an up-charge but the halter fit perfectly… time line was a few days since they make the halters in-house

Thank you to all who have responded! I think I’ll go with the sale halter. It is his 20th birthday present, afterall.

Might throw in a dog collar too!

I’m excited.

If you’re considering a dog collar, they offer a raised option that’s LOVELY. Really just beautiful. You have to call to order.

I also use the sale halter  (Get a second crown, too. Shipping is kinda a killer when you need to only order a spare!)
