Rachel's Valentina
Me too; I’ve also seen other MD’Os with the similar star/snip combo. Not terribly unusual. He tends to make a pretty stamp of a filly, too, regardless of the face markings. Many of his dark bay fillies (in addition to Songbird and Rachel Alexandra) have a similar look about them.
Songbird also reminds me of Rachalel Alexandra when she races.

If a sire is able to pass on a peculiar set of markings, does that or could that mean that he also is able to pass on performance related characteristics more than a sire without color and marking prepotency?

Or for that matter a dam?

No I don’t think that makes much of a difference. There’s a lot of flashy horses that come from performers that are flashy themselves that can’t run a lick, but look good in the paddock.

A bunch of plain Jane’s and John’s do very well and pass their talents on too. Markings are just nice to look at and eye catching, nothing more

Rachel’s Valentina will be back Saturday at Belmont in the gr I Mother Goose.

Looking forward to seeing Rachel’s Valentina run again.

I do have to say though that I am a huge Lightstream fan, so look out for her. She is something else. She scored in her debut at GP on dirt in March, then won a graded stakes race on dirt at Keeneland in April, then won the Soaring Softly S. on grass at Belmont, all at 7 furlongs. So, she is undefeated in 3 starts, and stretches out for the first time here in her fourth effort. I am hoping for something very exciting!

Best of luck to all. This will be one to watch.

RV off the board.

Not related to the race at all, but I am curious. Is it likely RV will have issues as a broodmare?
