Raging heat cycles in mare

anything anyone can add to my sad story?

I’m somehow hoping someone has had a mare just like mine and has an answer I can’t find…

I am going to get her ovaries ultrasounded…

I read the replies in the link and agree with all of them. Estrogen is in some clovers hence the idea behind the clover theory. However, clover is not a legume like soy (or peanuts). So don’t where that link came from.
As for the drugs…No 2 mares are the same, hate to say. And when using compounded drugs, the unknowns and unpredictabities can be magnified. So is the product bad, hence your vet’s suggestion about sending it back? Or is just not going to work in your mare? Who knows.
I had a mare similar to yours, only she was violent. To the point of being dangerous, both on her back and on the ground. Initially long acting progesterone worked great then after a couple yrs she started cycling right thru it. I finally had her spayed (she is not breeding material. The world does not need 2, or more, of her.) IF you spay her, be sure she is out of heat when you spay her. There are some mares that will retain some of their in heat characteristics if spayed while in heat. Not all, but some. Mine was spayed while in heat cuz we couldn’t get her out of heat!! And she retained attraction of males and that she will still “throw off” to anything that teases to her. But no other behavior–no squealing, etc.
Have you thought of trying a sponge?
I would definitely have her Ultrasounded as a first step. If that is “normal” hormone assays may be the next step?
Next time, buy a gelding
