Rain sheet suggestions?

I got yelled at last year because my horse did not have a rain sheet appropriate for Florida humidity. The last time I bought one of these, it was a Bucas Sun Shower. Is that still the done thing?

Anyone have a favorite sheet for warm, rainy weather? Mostly to keep the skin crud at bay. He’s out for about 4 hours in FL, and they will let me turn him out in the rain if I want - as long as he has a rain sheet.

Would love to not spend $200 on this as he will probably wear it for about five days, but if there is a magical turnout sheet that would also work in the new england fall, I’d love to hear about it too.

I live in Florida. If it’s warm and raining, I put my horses out naked or with a fly sheet on. None of them (4 currently) have ever gotten skin crud. In my experience, I find the skin crud thing to be more a matter of grooming than anything else.

That said, if that’s what you have to do to have your horse get turnout, Horseware has these https://shop.horseware.com/product/horseware-waterproof-fly-rug-liner-0g-lite/

It’s a water proof liner that goes under a fly sheet. Might work?

I would think any lightweight rainsheet or turnout sheet (no fill) would work. I get that you’d like it to be especially lightweight because of Florida temperatures. You should be able to get a sheet on sale at this time of the year. I saw the Bucas Sun Shower sheet (say that fast three times!) for about $180, but there are other choices out there.

I just checked and Adams Horse Supply has it (the Sun Shower) for $145.

If your horse isn’t tough on sheets, I’d get a couple of cheap 600 denier no fill sheets. They are super thin but kept ours dry. The amigo mio was the thinnest sheet I’ve ever felt.

I bought one of these for the pony… https://www.chicksaddlery.com/rugged-ride-1200-denier-waterproof-turnout-sheet-with-grey-skirt

I haven’t seen it in person yet due to the plague but haven’t heard any complaints from the barn owner.

If that’s too heavy, maybe they have a lighter version… Chick’s generally has good prices on blankets.
