Rambo Dog Blanket Sizing

Sis came home with a “variety pack” pooch. She looks an awful lot like a golden, only really long and skinny though the body, as though she was mixed with a hound of some sort. She is an extra long Vienna hot dog!

I would like to get a dogwarming gift for her and though the Rambo dog blanket would be ideal for the upcoming winter season. I am confused about the sizing because the dog’s length measurements are so out of proportion to her belly size.

Down her back from collar to base of tail, she is 27 inches. That’s exactly what the XXL measures down the back. In drop, she is 10 inches. That is the drop on a small! The drop on the XXL is 16.5 inches.

I see that the blanket has a belly wrap style with velcro. Normally I’d say a little extra drop is ok because it would just tuck under and cover more of the belly to protect it, but with the velco strap I worry that the fit will be so off that the velcro will not line up.

Anyone have this dog coat and have suggestions? I am thinking going one size down to an XL probably won’t help. The XL is length 24.25 and drop 14.5. That only cuts 2 inches in the drop in each side and then the blanket will not cover the dog’s entire back.

IME with Rambo blankets, they tend to get larger in girth as they get longer. I have a hound mix who should perfectly fit the XL lengthwise, but it’s a tent on him. Even as snug as the bellyband goes, it is still enormous. The L is too short and leaves his hiney out in the rain. Hound is long through the back with a semi-deep chest, but he’s a lean fellow.

He has one of the Smartpak blankets, which works OK, but it pops up when he’s out in the yard smelling around and having a big time, so his hiney gets wet anyway.

The L fits my other dog, who has a very deep chest, but it’s still big on him (he’s a terrier/lab mix, and aside from the deep chest, he’s not a stocky dog at all).

I think these blankets are just better suited to stockier canine body types.

Ditto what onelanerode said. I’ve got a presumed wheaten mix (38 ish pounds, deep chest, measures a 19/20). The medium fits length wise but if i want it semi tight around his belly its on the very edge of the velcro. I have the newmarket fleece, so it’s ok since the velcro sticks to the fleece, but not great for hound body types.
