Ramm "Flex Fence 525 Plus"

Looking to hear input from anyone with experience/knowledge about this particular Flex Fence from Ramm (the 525 Plus). I’m weighing the cost of oak board fencing versus this, of which I have no experience (synthetic fences). For a stallion paddock, horse is senior and respectful of fencing…but I’m still looking for reassurance that this is a safe option. It is definitely less $$$ than 4 board oak! Link:

We use it and love. No fence painting!

Thanks Fittobetied. What climate are you in, and how sturdy (ie, with a horse leaning on it, itchy butt or social leaning) is it in your experience? How much percentage wise did you find it saved money vs. wood board fencing? Any details I’d love to hear…

I have flex fence too and I LOVE it! My horses have rubbed their butts on it, leaned on it, run into it (by accident-sliding stop when overly frisky) and the fence has held up-- is forgiving – no cuts or injuries – and it stays tight (maybe a few tightenings on occasion).

I am in NY – hot summers, cold winters - no problem!

We have had this fencing since 1999 in the Shenandoah Valley of VA - cold winters and hot summers. No problems with it at all - love only having to paint fence posts. We had wood fence in NJ and would never go back to it.

I don’t personally have it, but I have friends who do and my observation is that running a hot wire inside is a good idea.

There is a commercial barn that has had a Ramm fence for as long as I remember–I don’t know when it was developed originally, but it has been decades. It is just starting to fade (black). I’m guessing they have improved the UV protection, etc. since then too.

The only ones that I have seen that look bad have bad bracing, or have let the horses graze through it.

I have the Ramm 4.25 4 rail and love it. We installed it ourselves, but yes put hot wire up for even the best of horses. I like the black, live in the southeast.

I can’t tell a money savings because I never stopped to figure it out but we have used it on two farms. You can use fewer posts which cuts cost and of course maintenance is much lower.

We have had no problems with horses leaning on it, etc. We’ve had trees fall on it and all we have to do is cut the tree up and re-tighten the fence.

We are in Virgina.

My barn that I put fencing in I had Ramm Fence - 4.25 top board and then coated wire under that. LOVED IT! Had a tornado come through and have 25 trees knocked down on it. I replaced 6 posts (trees snapped posts) and had to repair the wire in one place and tighten it! That’s all! Fast forward to marriage and moving to a barn with oak board. Hate it. Always needs repair. Like ALWAYS! Miss my Ramm!
