Ration balancer for horse with soy allergy

I know I’ve read posts regarding this topic in the past. However, at the time, I didn’t realize that my horse is allergic to soy. I just got results from allergy testing and I need to remove soy from my mare’s diet.

I’m looking for recommendations for a replacement to her ration balancer, such as a good all-around vitamin/mineral supplement. She is a Rocky Mountain horse in light work on a pasture of mostly crabgrass. She is fed orchard grass hay, which is not tested because I don’t buy large quantities.

She is an easy keeper, so she doesn’t need the calories from a traditional fortified grain product.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don’t think you’re going to find a soy free ration balancer, but you could do something like EquiVM plus alfalfa pellets for protein? Or Equi-base Grass. Both have soy oil, but pretty low on the list.

There’s also Horsetech’s High Point Grass…no soy on the label there at all.

High Point grass balancer is what I would suggest.

Yes, HorseTech High Point Grass, or Uckele Sporthorse Grass. The latter has 6gm lysine in a serving, compared to about 3 in the HPG. So to that point, I’d probably add Nutramino or Tri-Amino to the HPG, and it might not be necessary for the SHG.

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but Equi-Pride is soy free: http://www.sweetpro.com/horse-equipride.html

I love EP for what it is, but it doesn’t really fit even a good v/m supplement, much less a ration balancer. It’s low in protein, and only moderately fortified. I think it can be a very useful addition for some horses. But for someone needing amino acids, and relatively significant fortification, that’s not it.
