Any ideas how to keep rats out of our tractor?
Better than snakes.
Cat or a Jack Russell.
There is something called Hardware Cloth. It’s a wire mesh, with a netting attached, and is used to block openings to keep vermin out. People use it all of the time for that purpose on some cars, and I bet it would work on a tractor also.
Just one bite has kept all of our barns, buildings and grounds clear of rats/mice
We have discussed the hardware cloth but I am not sure how we would get it around the tractor good enough to seal it up. We can’t use poisons because chickens have access to tractor shed.
People use it to seal off the wheel well, and under hood openings that let vermin into the interior of cars (yes, that happens). They stretch it tight, and screw it in on the corners, and every few inches.
To find the instructions Google “Toyota prius vermin infestation” it should bring up the prius forums, and there is a link to the youtube for doing the hardware cloth. Short screws are the best way, you don’t want to cut something with a longer one. It’s not just the Prius that has this problem, but that’s where I found the original link. Or go to Youtube, and search for hardware cloth and vermin.

there is the old saying can’t never could… I posted the link because of the EPA ruling that went into effect in 2011…there are two versions of bait… Home Use and Agriculture … Home Use comes with bait stations, you just don’t chuck it out in the yard
Q. Are rodent baits regulated in any way?
A. Yes, in June of 2011 the EPA Risk Mitigation Decision placed restrictions on which products can be sold for
in-home use vs. agricultural use. Just One Bite®* II products are now exclusively for agricultural use while Just
One Bite®† EX can be sold for in-home use as long as it is accompanied with a bait station and in packages of 1 lb or less.
We don’t use baits because I am concerned about the chickens eating the poinsoned rats/mice.
We had a squirrel put acorns down the tail pipe of a bobcat! It was a chore getting them out. I used a coffee can over it after that but that hardware cloth sounds better.
