What happened to the off topic forum? I hadn’t gotten around to reading it and now it says “never” and you need a password to read it? Can someone clue me in? My password doesn’t work - do I have to apply for another one or are we not supposed to read it for some reason?
bump. Anyone?
Off topic day’s are only one day affairs. The forum is left up for two or three days after, then it goes away to neverland until the next OT day.
I would guess that the password it asks for is the moderator’s one, not our individual members password.
You will have to wait now for the next Off Topic Day.
I thought the “never” was pretty indicative of how the temp mods felt about Mod1 leaving on off-topic day!
Um, yes–that was my impression :uhoh:
Let’s hope we’re wrong!
Yep…I figured it was because a few people thumbed their noses at the mods and posted anyways…I really hope we have an OT day again!
I assumed the “never” had something to do with the fact that the covering mod closed the forum by closing the threads but couldn’t close the entire forum and a few folks figured that out and were starting new threads. Then ignoring the temp mod adding a thread stating to not post new threads which was basically ignored. Possibly the other mod came back from vacation and was not amused by those trying to prolong a day and a half long OT time by ignoring the closing and happily posting away a lot of nothing but giggling about how they got around the closed forum.
Mod 1 had left a sticky up stating there would be an OT day and that they were going on vacation and to please behave. Turned out more like when a teacher leaves a roomful of 5th graders.
Just not on Election Day!
Where are you guys seeing the word ‘never’? I’m not seeing it.
I don’t think we have to worry about the “never”. I’ve seen it there after other OT days:yes:

LOL you got that right. At least it was entertaining.

I had a very hard time resisting the urge to post where I was not supposed to but I resisted
Guess I always was the “brown noser”
I don’t think we need to worry, the Off Topic days are a huge draw just because they are so rare.
Mod on another forum -
When a forum is closed and says “never” it just means you do not have the access required to access the forum. Only mods and/or admin has the ability, depending on the level of security currently set. It does not mean that they were mad at anyone and wrote in “never” to make it clear there would not be another OT day. It’s just how VB works.
It says “Never” because all the posts in Off Topic have been deleted. That column is to show “Last Post” and since there’s nothing left, the last post was “Never”. Typically the whole forum just disappears after a few days of being read-only, but I am guessing the temp mods don’t know how to remove it so just deleted all the threads instead.
I’m back and starting to get caught up! Sorry for any confusion re: the Off Topic Day. Nobody’s in detention and there will be plenty more OT Days in the future.
Did those who received the “never” message get it when trying to access a specific OT thread with a direct link after the forum was taken down? Or did the whole forum say “never” while it was still supposed to be up for reading?
The message was just a by-product of the regular closing down of the OT forum, so nothing to worry about, but I wanted to be sure I understood at what point in the process you saw it.
Thanks!

Good, because my mom was worried you would make her stand in the corner.
Hope you had a great vacation!
No, it said never after it was closed down regularly. It just seemed so final (and it was a phase of the forum that we normally do not get to see).

When looking at the “menu” of discussion forums, the OT forum was listed under off course, but instead of saying the last thread/last poster, it just said never. If you clicked on Off Topic, it took you to an admin password page.
Was your vacation nice?
Oh boy, I just checked and saw the error I made in closing it. Completely my mistake and it’s been corrected!
Ahem, yes, apparently I had too good a time on vacation.
Because the read-only period of the forum was likely wonky, I’ll set it back up for a proper read-only day or two.
Again, my apologies for the confusion!
