re-stickering an aluminum trailer?

I have a late 90s 4star 2 horse slant. Love it. Inside is lovely, outside has oxidized and the decals are quite faded and peeling. Plus, they are kind of a southwestern design, which isn’t really working for me. The fact that they are faded brick color and terra cotta color isn’t helping.

I already read this thread about the pros and cons of acid washing. I have owned it 5 years and have never acid washed it. I am guessing the previous owner had not either.

I am making summer plans.

  1. I’d like to peel off the decals - not sure how to simplify that job. I am thinking a hair dryer set on hot. Any suggestions?
  2. <Maybe> take it in for an acid wash.
  3. Right away take it in to get new stickers/decals applied.

Where on earth does one go to get new decals designed, created and applied to a horse trailer? There is a place by me that does vinyl wraps on vehicles and they also do vinyl truck lettering. Is that what I need or something different? Maybe an RV shop?

This is a great project to think about in the dead of winter. Reality will probably be that the entire project will be cost prohibitive and I will need to live with peeling southwestern stickers for a few more seasons. The trailer is fully functional, safe and easy to haul, as is. This is purely a cosmetic overhaul.

Hello - if this trailer is old style mill finish alum exterior then yes, have it acid washed once, see if you have a drive thru truck wash near to do that

a hair dryer or moving heat gun and plastic spackle “knife” can peel the old decals off, goo b gone for residue, then the sign shop to match the old stripe pattern or try 4 star to see if they might sell replacements

you might see about the replacement stripes before you tackle this
