I needed a new barn/riding jacket for winter, and a good friend offered to buy one for me as a Xmas/Birthday present. It was a Horseware Ireland jacket. Based on the fit of a Horseware Polo I bought at WEG, I told her she’d probably best order an XL. Now, I’m basically a size 12, sometimes a 10, depending on the cut. In 95% of clothing that’s designated by S-M-L-XL, I wear an L, not an XL, more due to broad shoulders than anything else Well, the jacket arrived, and I can barely zip it over my 36B bust - I mean, it CRUSHES them, and that’s with only a bra and thin thermal undershirt on- no sweater, turtleneck or anything else. Extra Large, really? I am so disappointed. It’s going back, of course. It was purchased through Smart-Pak and I sent them some feedback five days ago (do you stock XXL, I really like it but it doesn’t fit?) and have received ZERO response. Just beyotching, but really, it seems like Horseware’s sizing is unrealistic. I have a Horseware rugby shirt that is a men’s, and it’s a medium and fits me, so I guess it’s not just their sizing in women’s clothing that is a bit off.
Might be UK sizing which runs about 4 dress sizes smaller than US. (eg. UK 10 is a US 6)
Don’t think it’s UK sizing. I had the same issue, have an older Riding Sport coat, size L, it swallows me. This year needed to replace it, ordered an XL in the Mountain Horse and it was too tight. Ordered an XXL Piper coat, just fits but no room for layering and not as loose as I wanted… I’m finding many manufacturers have made their sizes smaller,
Horseware human stuff is all over the place with sizing. I can never say for sure what I will be in their stuff unless I try it on. It is really annoying when trying to order online.
Maybe they’re going by “high fashion” sizing - Size 10 is “PLUS size.” I guess size 12 is obese. Sigh. Back it goes.
I don’t like their clothes. Only their blankets. lol. Mountain Horse stuff fits more generously and is well made. Actually- SP has 30% off their outerwear this month if you have Smart perks (already getting supplements in SP). The code is DECPRKSC18. Maybe they have something? Although, with the other thread indicating shipping issues you may not receive until January lol
Horseware NEVER fits me around the bust. Even when I am at my smallest I have to wear an XL because of my bust. I won’t buy any clothes by them again because my chest isn’t going away no matter how much weight I lose.
yep - that is buying clothing for ya! I personally don’t like Horseware’s human outerwear since it is SO boxy. I had the opposite issue as you, I ordered a vest and it was super boxy and wide but short. My friend works in the apparel industry and she says that fabric weave can even change per order, so even when a pair of jeans is the same brand and style, there can be a fit discrepancy within the same manufacture run. Blame it on cheap manufacturing I guess.
Whenever I buy a piece of clothing, either in-store or online, I am fully prepared to return it just since measurements vary so much per style (even within a brand). For example, I love Calvin Klein dresses for work, but all of their blazers and suit jackets fit me miserably. Good thing for the OP smartpak is great with returns!
