Really nice but not $$$$ pony halter?

My niece has a new lease pony. I wanted to get a halter from Quillin in KY (they are awesome) but they do TBs mainly (so would be a custom order, TB sizes and pony sizes don’t track) and they are totally booked through the end of the year. Good for them!!!

Any other recommendations? I wanted Quillin because: made in the USA, quality is outstanding, prices are ridiculously reasonable.

Tack Shack of Ocala and Central Kentucky Tack have similar options so you might check those out.

There are a few other halter makers kind of in the same bucket at Quillin. Maybe one of these guys would work?

Thank you! KBC yearling halters match up almost perfectly, and they are taking my order now. I hope the quality is as nice as Quillen.

FYI, handmade in KY, triple stitched, nameplate, free shipping, under $70.

Next time Freedman’s makes a stunning pony halter. They will customize if you reach out.

KBC halters are lovely.

Tory Leather in PA is also an excellent option (I know you found an option, but for others who find this thread)

Wanted to third Central KY Tack and Tack Shavk of Ocala. I’ve bought custom halters from both and have been very happy with the process, price, and quality. They are some of the nicest pieces of tack I have (IMO) and I love me some name brand stuff (cries in Voltaire, Ariat, PS of Sweden, Schockemohel, etc :joy:).

Fennells, also in KY.

I love their turnout halters. They wear like iron and for ponies are $$. Weanling halter was less than $40.

Without clicking on all the links above  does anyone know if those brands make convertible grooming halters (the whole throat latch snaps off)? I have an older one by SmartPak and the leather is lovely but they don’t sell them anymore :sob:

I’m looking for 3/4" and 1", brown leather, solid brass hardware, adjustable chin, double buckle crown, and then of course 3 snaps on the throat latch.

I think all of the companies mentioned do custom work, so they’ll all whip up whatever you want

Oh gotcha didn’t catch that these were all custom. Thank you!

Tons of options. For KBC I just asked for the adjustable chin strap, as their yearling nose piece is a little shorter than the halter the pony came with.

My FYI: years ago when I ordered from Quillin, I specified all the leather pieces, but asked for 3/4" leather. The hardware was also sized for 3/4" leather, and the resulting custom halter was too small. Completely my fault! Just something to keep in mind.

I sent photos with measurements to KBC, and the lovely lady went and measured several halters while we were on the phone. I did not end up needing a custom halter because the adjustable chin was already a standard option.

Love the ones from Tack Shack in Ocala. That’s always my go-to. They’re beautiful and hold up very well. And very reasonably priced

If you have a pony with a very refined head, I recommend the “rolled Arabian halter” from Tack Shack of Ocala.

It’s not listed on their Amazon store, but you can still get it by typing a request for this style in the comments section. It’s the most flattering halter I’ve found for my Arabians, and one of the only one that comes in dimensions that actually fit them!
