Really odd/stupid/annoying cursor issue

This happens to me at home and at work on laptops… all are Windows NT using Mozilla.

If you click anywhere outside the ‘reply’ or ‘post’ text box, you loose your cursor. You can still type at the end of the line, and can highlight text, but cannot delete/cut/paste or MOVE the cursor to type except at the end of the line.

If you click ‘go advanced’ you get the cursor back–at least until you click outside again (i.e. to add a smiley, or scroll down, or look back up at a post, etc.)

I have deleted all cookies, cleared cache, and all the tricks I know how to do. Is there a Mozilla fix?

Not sure if it will fix the issue, but Firefox 3.5 is live now.

Yeah it is live but sometimes I got problem with it.
Though I already updated my browser but it seems so slow sometimes.

Nope. :sigh:

Are all of the function buttons working properly otherwise? I’m looking around for a potential solution, but you could also try using the advanced message editor interface, instead of WYSIWYG, and see if you still have the problem.

That might help narrow it down… To change your interface style, click User CP–>edit Options—>Misc. Options.

Thanks!

Just an update Mod1–I changed the interface, and I think it works.

I’m off to try it on the work/wireless laptop. Very excited if that’s the fix, as it’s a very easy one!

That happens to me a lot as well. I’ve realized that if I just don’t type into that window, back and hit reply again, it usually brings me the cursor, but I might look into the options also.

I have the same problem–Windows XP Pro, IBM 600X Laptop, latest version of Firefox.

It’s very annoying. Good to know others are afflicted.

We’re going to be releasing a redesign of www.chronofhorse.com and updating some things on the forums, including the software version we’re running, in early November, so this could be a software glitch that will be ironed out.

If not, we can address it with the tech folk after the transition is complete.

Sorry for the hassle!
Mod 1

I don’t have an advanced editor in my options. I have basic, standard and full WYSIWYG. I’ve switched to standard and will let you know if it helps.

My cursor disappears sometimes if I try to type before the window has completely loaded with all its bells and whistles.

Count me as a sufferer on my work laptop. Windows XP, patches up to date, FireFox 3.5+, also up to date. Very crazymaking.

Crossing my fingers that upgrades make this go away. I didn’t manage to diagnose it as far as seeing that it was clicking outside the textarea is what triggered it, but I think whoever said that is correct. Thanks.

changing the editor for me DID/DOES work! Yay!

It’s not the WYSIWYG, but standard, I think.

So far, so good, on all different accts and laptops!
