This is probably a really weird question, but here goes. Does anyone know how to make the really stiff handle of our frost-free hydrant go up and down easier? My hubby says it is in the inside valves and it can’t be adjusted - it just needs a new one. Trouble is- the darn thing is fairly new, and I don’t want him to have to go through all the work of replacing it. The faucet itself works fine- no drips, shuts off tightly if you can just get the handle down - almost takes more strength than I have. TIA for any words of wisdom.
I’m assuming the handle is difficult to move through the entire range, not just at the bottom. First, Oil the pivots. Then some hydrants have a small screw that restricts movement… loosen it. If that doesn’t help… Next — Put a little grease on the shaft that goes through the packing nut. Next step is loosen the packing nut. This could cause some leakage.
Thanks for the suggestions - will pass them on to hubby!!!
