Really Thrilled with my mare

She has come so far.

We are really riding so much more and every ride is just better than the last.

Cannot wait to actually compete on her.

We went to a trail we had never been to before. A friend trailered us there and she didn’t care at all about loading in a different trailer.

She was so calm when we got there and just stood still for grooming to mounting.

It was her first time leading the whole ride and she wasn’t spooky at all. She would hesitate when she heard strange noises, but as long as I let her pause for a moment to ponder she would continue on.

Small bridges have never been an issue but this trail brought us to our first big over a river bridge. We had actually finished the loop and were just wandering around. This bridge led to another trail and we wanted to try it.

We came to the bridge and she was like, nope. Nope. But just refused forward motion. As this was her first time seeing one of these we wanted it to be a good experience so the other horse went first and she carefully followed.

The best part was that when we went back over it 20 minutes later she lead the way just fine.

Thanks for reading, just wanted to share.

That’s great news! I was so glad to read you didn’t make a big deal about crossing the bridge first. And when you went to cross on the way back she led. This stuff isn’t as easy as one might think.

Congratulations to you both! I enjoyed your post.

Plus it reminded me of a trail ride I took on a three-year-old years ago.

Fabulous! It’s so great when you really commit to a logical program and they respond like that. Congrats!

That’s very very cool! I completely understand the feeling. What are you planning on competing in; competitive trail, endurance,?

I love it when horses have different weaknesses on trail rides. They can teach each other things. This one goes first on a bridge, that one goes first over the wide road. That type of stuff.

If they aren’t doing anything wrong and just need to learn it’s sad when people get upset or force it.

Thanks RPM & Flash!

She really seems to do most of the work! Super proud.

Paula: I did CTR’s with my gelding but they don’t have any out here so I plan to do endurance, learn dressage, and pop over a few cross rails.

Here’s the bridge!

Having a seasoned “been there, done that” horse for yours to gain courage from is a real blessing. Sounds like your horse will be a great trail horse. Good luck in the future competitions.
