Somewhat off-topic (but I think the topic train has already gone off the rails), from what I’ve read, historically, ladies’ sidesaddle attire would be modified in very hot climates. Sharing this video mainly because it’s cool to see someone who rides aside so well and is so passionate about the tradition, but at the 2 minute mark, she talks about the sidesaddle habit worn by Victorian ladies in tropical climates in the period of the British Raj:
