Rec. for Sports/equestrian Sunglasses Please

Hi Everyone, (I posted the following in Dressage section too)

Have you got a favorite brand/style of sport/equestrian sunglasses you can recommend?

I am living in a semi arid climate for the first time ever.

Since spring has hit, my migraines are occurring more frequently. The heat isn’t the big trigger, it’s the light.

I always wear a helmet when riding and polarized sun glasses. My doc says I need wrap around sports glasses to stop light getting in from the side. Can you recommend a good brand? I’d like to get decent pair. I find any wrap around glasses I’ve ever tried seem to squash my eyelashes, lol.

TIA

Cheers,
Wombat Divine

Oakley, pricey but great
Tifosi best quality for price I have found
Alternative, go to any marathon expo and buy nice discount ones for $30

I recently pickd up a pair of puma glasse at costco. Very pleased. Polarized lenses with nice ‘colour’ and no distortion. Comfy ear pieces that keep the glasses staying put even through a cross country school. Price was about $30.

Thanks scubed. People in the Dressage forum were suggesting Oakleys and Maui Jims, so that’s good to know you like the Oakleys too. Not heard of Tifosi. Will have to check them out.

Mouse and Bay, Geez, that’s a good price for glasses.

After leaving my beloved Maui Jims on the horse trailer fender… I started buying Tifosi sunglasses, as they are not terribly expensive but excellent quality. My favorite model is the Alpe, as I have a very small face, but there are a bunch of different kinds and several different lenses available. I have found them to be very durable (one pair is probably 2 years old) and comfortable.

I echo the Oakley recs - and I’ve also had good luck with Nike and Julbo sunglasses as well. I picked up the nike ones at a nike outlet for a very reasonable price - and online sites like www.6pm.com, www.sierratradingpost.com or www.reioutlet.com often have good deals on nice sporty sunglass brands

I have bought julbo too - good if you have a small face. Try Sierra trading post for good prices.
I don’t buy expensive any more either as I run over them, lose them in stalls, etc.

Tifosi - polarized & shatterproof & the price is right because I can’t seem to make a pair last a year without leaving them on top of the truck, or loosing them or breaking them in some other creative way. I have a small face and the wisp model fits me better than anything else I’ve found

Do any if the recommended sunglasses have flexible frames? I’ve cut my face by landing on regular framed sunglasses.

Not sure they’d be wrap-around enough for you, but I like these, from Native. Light, designed to allow you to switch out lenses (if you like/need them lighter or darker). Also seem to be sturdy.

(Yes, they’re listed as men’s, but, whatevs.)

I also really like Maui Jim’s. Can’t remember what style I had but they were so light, I sometimes I forgot I was wearing them.

I love Ryders and MEC brand sunglasses, but I always try on a ton before I find the right pair. It’s kind of like goldilocks - keep trying any pair on that you think would work and you like. Cheaper, more expensive, try them all on and find the ones that fit your face the best.

Also, if you can, try and find shatter proof lenses.

I just pick up a pair from Academy. The ones I bought are intended for the glare off the sun for skiing and they wrap around the face. They do press against my eye lashes, but once I got use that that they have been fine. These were in the $12-$15 range.

Sierra Trading Post is having a clearance sale on sunglasses.

I like my old fashioned RayBans, but they are a little pricey.

I’m a die hard Maui Jim fan, have 3 pairs and the oldest is 7 years old this year. And still going strong. I put a neck strap on them and it helps me keep up with them when I’m outside working. Don’t wear any other sunglasses.

SO has a pair of Oakley’s and loves them.

I have to wear sunglasses outside or I get intense migraines. I only buy Maui Jims now. They are so light that I don;t get that pressure on my nose which leads to another headache. They last forever, my current pair is 3 years and I wear them almost daily. I used to buy cheap glasses but when these ones wear out or get lost, they will be replaced with another pair of Maui Jims.

Also get migranes from bright sun and spent many year racing sailboats where reflctions are killer. I’ve had Oakley, Maui Jim, and Smith to name a few. Don’t think you will go wrong with any of those, find a style and fit you like. My personal favorite were by Smith.

I get mine at the Harley-Davidson shop! Not that expensive.
