My family is thinking of going to a dude ranch sort of resort as our next big vacation. Doesn’t need to really focus exclusively on riding, and probably shouldn’t given that my oldest kid has relatively limited interest and skill. I’d like more of a glamping/lodge/cabins sort of experience rather than really roughing it on the range in two man tents. Any suggestions? Open to pretty much anywhere in North America, but would generally rather have mountains.
I have a very recent post asking for dude ranch suggestions. There are some good ideas that may interest you. I really am interested in Sweet Grass Ranch in Montana… although it is going to be too far to drive vs Wyoming which is driveable so flight costs will be a factor. Another top choice of mine is R Lazy S Ranch which is in Wyoming. Both have water sports as well as riding which is what is really catching my eye as my mom and aunt probably don’t want to ride all day and I do want to try white water rafting!
My sister went to White Stallion Ranch in Arizona and says it was one of her best vacations ever. Family of 5 went, she was the only rider in the group and the whole family had a blast.
Run as far away as you can from clear creek ranch in western North Carolina.
When? My recommendations are near Tucson, and NOT summer trips!
I have heard good things about White Stallion Ranch mentioned by gottagrey.(and it’s not overly far from where my horses are!), or Tanque Verde Guest Ranch is another nice one.
We also have Hacienda del Sol for a top riding/hotel experience. It would likely be my top choice if I wanted luxury and not too much saddle time. The others may fit more of an actual Dude Ranch style for you, without roughing it.
