It’s fall, y’all. Or, at least it’s going to be soon, so I thought I could maybe start a thread for those who do costumes or those who need ideas, or just those who enjoy seeing horses in cute outfits (who wouldn’t). I, personally, am thinking either safari or Incredibles themed for my dude this year. How about you??
In 2020, I was Barbie and my yellow mare was Barbie’s horse. Since I have a whole bunch of pink stuff, I am thinking we will either be Pink Ladies or The Plastics… now if only I could find black leather breeches so I can be Regina (I don’t think a miniskirt will work on horseback!)
If you have a bay, my TB was a Killer Bee.
Attached deelybobber antenna to his browband, sprayed furazone stripes on his butt*.
I wore a black/yellow striped rugby shirt, black breeches & tiara as Queen
*Caveat:
The stripes did not brush out easily.
IIRC, he wore them for about a week
Ok, bumping this back up. Anybody else dressing up their pony? I am contemplating something like this, either prom dates or Men In Black. Any other ideas? I just need it to work for a few minutes to take some pics for my nieces.
I saw a picture of the cutest pony and little girl. She was dressed with a shower cap and bathing suit. The pony was covered in clear balloons (Bombproof for sure). They were a bubble bath.
I read this and thought it was for the human.
I got nothing for the horses but a few years ago, my mom, who works as a recruitment person for girl scouts, had to attend an indoor trunk-or-treat event locally for work, hand out candy, try to find girls who wanna join girl scouts.
Me, bored 20-something adult, was like, “hey I can tag along, help out w/setup (table and hauling a ton of candy out of the car) AND have an excuse to dress up in costume (and eat candy)” (I haven’t had an excuse to wear a Halloween costume since like, HS when we did Halloween concerts in band and got to dress up)
I bought a cheap sweater at Walmart that had a pattern that reminded me of racing silks (the lower part of the sweater was black, upper part, red, white chevron stripe between the two halves) put that on with tan riding breeches, tall boots (black), a Charles Owen Ayr8 w/red, piping, bought a stick horse at Walmart and carried a short riding crop and boom, instant jockey costume, complete with “race horse.” Pretty much everyone could recognize what I was supposed to be.
EDIT: I sat around, re-reading “Christine” by Stephen King, ate some candy, handed out candy, and generally enjoyed being in costume.
Why is the deelybopper description making me picture the old SNL skits from the '70s with the bee costumes. And I’m pretty sure they called that the Killer Bees.
Exactly!
& I cheaped out on a costume as a full grown adult one year:
Wore my breeches, ratcatcher, hunt coat & dress boots
TaDa! Equestrian!
I have used riding clothes so many times! Pirate was breeches, show shirt & stock tie, breeches & Dubarry-like boots for garden gnome, same boots & different breeches for Katniss Everdeen… This year I’ll still be using a show shirt for Red Riding Hood (my nieces are going to be little wolves).
