Recommendation for joint supplements

I have a 14 year old bloodhound who is having some mobility issues. She’s been on Cosequin but I’d like to try something stronger if possible. Recommendations?

Ask your vet for Librela. It’s a newer injectable that’s having enormous impacts on joint health.

Sounds good but I can’t afford it.

I’m assuming joint pain… if so CBD. Its worked wonders on my 9 y/o beagle with arthritis.

What brand did you use?

I use this company’s products for my dogs and myself. I love the fact they test everything.

I use Dasuquin for my 10 year GSD.

Not sure where you are located but I’ve always liked Omega Alpha’s products. I use this one on my girl:

I also like turmeric and order this brand from amazon as well:

You could try switching to Dasuquin, the ASU’s might be of benefit. I’m quite skeptical that there would be any sort of appreciable benefit from any supplement at this point. The dog is older, has already been on cosequin, and you’re observing mobility issues.
No supplement will significantly reverse OA, at best it will stabilize.

Would you be able to afford Librela if you drop the Cosequin?

My dog is 10, has lost some range of motion in her carpal joints. X-rays in the fall showed some mild OA in her stifles. She’s been on omega-3’s and glucosamine HCL/chondroitin for a couple years. I tried CBD oil since she’s also sensitive to loud noises but I didn’t notice any change mentally or physically. She had a bad reaction to NSAIDS a couple years ago after a minor surgery so eventually we’ll probably put her on Librela.

Librela for a dog her size would be around $250/month. I get Cosequin at Sam’s for $36 or less and a jar lasts a month for 3 dogs. If she were my only dog I would try the Librela but I have 5 others plus 9 cats.

Fair enough. I’m in Canada and Librela is similar in cost, but we pay a lot more for supplements.

Adequan can really help you can buy a large horse bottle and it lasts a long time for a dog.

Dasuquin made a real difference for my old Cocker spaniel. Make sure you order from Chewy or a vet, specifically not Amazon - there are a bunch of fakes.

Dasuquin w/ Msm was better than Cosequin for my current GSD.
But the very BEST help has been
Giving a can of human grade Wild Pink Salmon everyday for
The Omegas.
She hasn’t needed her Lubrisyn HA lately either.

I ordered some lubrisyn for her plus I will try the salmon. Thank you everyone for your advice.

Hope it helps!!

How much is a can of wild salmon? I’d compare that to some of the marine-sourced oils packaged for dogs/cats, like Grizzly and some otherse

Me too. If it works for her I might order some of the human grade for me.

Sam’s has it for around $3.50/can.

$3.50 a day is pretty $$, and a serving of Grizzly Salmon oil, or something similar, would likely be a lot cheaper
