I’m planning to vet out an unstarted 3 year old with the hope of developing the horse to the Upper Levels. Need recommendations for a good vet for pre-purchase. I am sure the area is loaded with good vets, but I’m not from there so unsure who to call from the list I was given.
You could call Blue Ridge Equine. Their vets are all good and they have done PPE for me. If you were going to ask for one in particular I would ask for Kelly Giunta.
Second Blue Ridge. If Dr. Reynolds Cowles is still practicing/doing PPEs, I would ask for him.
Zero personal experience but we almost relocated there. I toured half a dozen barns and from speaking with the trainers and barn managers I was told:
- Marc Toothman with Dayton Animal Clinic
- Hannah Plaugher with Westwood
- Shalin Crawford outside of service area but might come down
- blue ridge in general
I was told that Mountain View was a hard pass.
Again, all second hand information from about a year ago but in case it’s helpful.
Reynolds is retired.
Old Dominion Equine in Keswick. Jeff Beshear. He competes at the Upper Levels and has a great eye.
Thank you and yes! He is now my first choice. He came to our farm in Fl a few years ago to vet out a horse for himself. I didn’t realize he was at Old Dominion.
Dr Jeff beshear is awesome. He will tell you everything and help explain pros/ cons/ maintenance. He’s a great guy.
