Recommendations for a larger contoured saddle pad?

What do guys do? I know there are always the square/rectangular pads… I have a guy with an 18.5" saddle and a forward flap and a horse with a high wither. Is there an off the shelf pad? I’ve been told Wilkers will custom one, but I find their pads a little thin/flimsy.

Ideas?

Do you mean fully shaped like a hunter pad, or a contoured square pad to fit the shape of your flap?

I guess I mean fully shaped. He does already have a cool, contoured (?) pad for XC. I don’t have my jargon down, I guess.

I’m going to cross post on eventing thread, too. Maybe more guys on there?

Roma has some fleece XC-looking ones that are large. Try Horseloverz; I think that is where I got mine.

Toklat Medallion pads fit an 18.5" close contact saddle for a show pad, and the extra-long rider’s international pad works well for schooling at home.

Wilker’s has it with many foam insert options

I can verify that the medallion superquilt pad fits my 19" Stubben Roxane. It’s on my profile pic.

EquineLUX will custom-make their shaped pads for just a tad more than the stock. They did one for my 17.5" long forward flap CC saddle from photos and measurements and it was perfect. Very very happy with both the pad quality and the service I received.

This is what you want, I believe https://nuumed.com/218-hiwither-original-wool-numnah-forward-cut-nm02b-fc

I’ll send you a quick PM as I may have one that would fit…

I didn’t realize Wilkers had so many options. The local tack shops carry only one type. Thx!

Dover has an extra long contoured pad. It only comes in solid colors. $30

One other question along these same lines - someone indicated to me that an all purpose was more likely to fit since it was cut more generously? I was under the impression that an A/P saddle wouldn’t have quite as forward a flap as a close contact. Just sign me…dressage rider trying to keep up, lol

If you get a pad that’s not one of the cheap generic off-brand “fitted” ones that doesn’t fit anything right, you usually have options for things like different flap sizes, different seat sizes, etc. I’ve never had any problems finding a fitted pad for my 18" long/forward flapped saddle. Unless you’ve got an AP saddle, the AP pads will not fit well under a close contact saddle.

If you’re looking at square pads for a big saddle, look at PRI pads. Those are my favorite, for both schooling, jumpers, and dressage.
