Recommendations for breeches for a chubby boy

My son who just turned 7 has been riding for a year in his regular jeans- he is tall and has a belly (not obese but on the chubby side) and none of the breeches seems to fit him. Could you please recommend a pair that won’t break the bank? It is hard to find boy clothes for riders :frowning: (He is the size of a 9 -10 year old) - Many many thanks !!!

Does he need them to show?

Otherwise, let him ride in jeans. I have ridden in jeans (other than shows) since the 70s. My trainer who competes internationally, still schools in jeans and full chaps.

Otherwise, finding things for guys is impossible. I ride in Animo and Pikeur breeches.

My friend’s grandson did his Pony Club D levels in light grey baseball pants. They have belt loops and sometimes rear pockets, like breeches. He even showed in them.

My son’s always schooled in their baseball pants with half chaps too!! I tell most boys and male teens that don’t want to ride in breeches and jodphurs (for many reasons) to ride in the baseball pants.

He wants to show - so I need to find at least one suitable pair otherwise I don;t care. I am thinking of stitching leather panels on his jeans - maybe I should start a business :)) I will try the baseball pants - Thanks a million

You can always try tights like Kerrits or Irideon. They are stretchy and come in tan colors. Remember, too, that childrens hunt coats are unisex and the more affordable ones tend to be boxier so they’ll probably fit your little guy better. Congrats on having a boy who loves riding and wants to show!

We had success with Ovation breeches. They are a decent price point, very durable and just fine for every day and the show ring. There was one point where our son was between sizes and the only thing that worked were some pull-on jods…tights are not recommended! Boys need zippers in front, not just for practical reasons but, well, camouflage! As for a show coat, “girls” coats are fine. They button the “other” way, but our son didn’t really care. There are tons of options for show coats.
