hi there, i have a bwp mare who has contender, calypso ll, and cor de la breyere on her sire’s side and landgraf l on her dams side. i’m having a hard time picking a stallion for her. i would really like to have the foal be bwp, but i’ll also be fine with holsteiner =] i really like cornet obolensky, but my mare already has a bit of a temperament so im not so sure. love clinton though. any advice? thanks!
Vision by Clinton is BWP and I believe stands at Spy Coast Farm now. He acted like a perfect gentleman and is beautiful in person. A friends foals by him out of a Riverman mare did not seem to have the Clinton temperment.
I LOVE Bliss MF and have just bred my mare to him:

He is GOV, RPSI and BWP approved, fabulous mover and phenomenal jumper, very credible bloodlines and his temperament is to die for
Good luck in your search!
so what are you trying to produce and what does your mare need correcting?
Picking a stallion without that info is so very difficult.
sorry! i guess i should’ve added more info. my mare is what i like to call small but mighty. she’s 16.2-16.3 but somehow kind of short in presence, so i’d really like a larger baby. she’s also kind of manly and not very feminine, so a more refined appearance and prettier head would be lovely =]
as for performance, she’s currently jumping the 1.35, looking to move up a little and do a few grand prixs before we settle down to breed. she has an enormous, scopey jump that i love but she really pounds the ground. i’d like to add a little more finesse to the jump. also she’s fast- all the time. she jumps a course clear and quick, but its on her terms. great when shes good, devilish when she isnt…
also her temperament in her stall and handling leaves much to be desired. she stands and handles well but never looks pleasant. shes always got a grouchy face going on. thanks for all the help!
those stallions you guys mentioned look awesome! thanks
Bliss MF
Bliss MF does sound like a perfect match for your mare. He is extremely light on his feet and had a very good mind. Easy to work around and very friendly.
Hope you’ll give him a try!
Maggie
What about Ironman…saw a nice baby out of him at our insspection last year…a big improvement on the dam. Lofty gaits, and tons of personality…very sweet and personable.
I have an Ironman http://www.ironmanonline.com/ filly born in March, the most adorable sweet easy going foal, and just gorgeous! She has a butt on her that says power, and a beautiful ground covering stride as well.
You may also think of Legaczy http://www.newblessingfarm.com/Stallion.php he is by Alla Czar whose sire Zeus produced world class jumpers. Legaczy dam, All of the Above is by Buntspecht de Lauzelle who jumped over 7 feet. Legaczy stands 17.1 and also produces fabulous temperments. Legaczy is very prepotent and refines his offspring.
I will also agree on Bliss, he is a lovely horse with gorgeous ballet movement and a fabulous jump.
All three stallion owners are fabulous people and very knowledgeable, they are the best to work with!
Can you give us who the sire and dam sire is of your mare? Or her registered name?
I have a Deja Blue B foal due any day now that I’m ridiculously excited about. Rhonda at Rising Star has been one of the best stallion owners to work with, ever. I highly recommend checking her kids out.
I will also agree on Bliss, he is a lovely horse with gorgeous ballet movement and a fabulous jump.
“Ballet movement” sums up how Bliss moves to a “tee” doesnt it?!
I have an Ironman filly who is two and couldn’t have asked for a better improvement on my mare. The filly moves great, good: conformation, sweet as can be with tons of personality, and is a piece of cake to work/train around. Plus she is gorgeous but so was mom. I’m already starting to look for a stallion match for her in the near further.
Her registered name is Anke, her sire is Cappucino van Berkenbroek(name now changed) and her grandsire is Contender. Her mom’s name is Julie and she’s a Landgraf l mare somewhere back there.
So far im really loving Bliss, Vision, and Ironman, but what do you guys think about Parco?? i love Darco, but he’s expensive, and besides im partial to greys =]
I looked at both Parco & Darco for my half TB/SW mare but both of them tend to throw heavier horses, old school warmbloods but they can jump.
The Parco’s and Darco’s I have seen have also tended to be very heavy set and “old style” which is great if that is what you are breeding for, not so great if you are not …

Take a look at Richard at his website www.theequineathlete.net or his facebook page www.facebook.com/KWPNstallion which has quite a few photos of this years foals. He is fully approved BWP and should provide you the qualities you listed above.
For the months of June and July he will be available for fresh cooled semen contracts instead of just frozen semen contracts as he will be pretty much staying at the stallion station being collected.
Simsalabim at Bannockburn Farm is a grandson of Darco, and throws really nice babies. There is also Wonderboy, whom I’ve considered for my BWP mare, but you will get heavier babies with those lines, but they can jump the moon
Cappucino VB is Contender-Grundstein II-Wettstreit, from TB family 2-s.
Is your mare a blood type? If not, I’d probably steer clear of the Darco lines as they need mares with blood. If she is, look hard at Amaretto D’Arco. He is back to his winning ways as he just won the Nations Cup over in La Baule and led the Irish team at St. Gallen. I just saw a whole bunch of his kids at SCF from a W I D E variety of mares. All were very nice types (surprising for a Darco!), with great canters and they took to the jump chute like ducks to water. After watching the kids, he moved up to the #1 position for one of my girls.
I second breeding to Simsalabim or Richard if you are looking for a stallion to quiet your mare and get some refinement of head and body. Both stallions stamp their offspring w great personalities. We have two Sim babies and the are like little pocket pets both in the stall, pasture and at shows! One Kyra Bay is in the top three as a yearling on the line! Both are out of a slightly “hot” mare when she wants to be and they are wonderful w beautiful heads (both mental and physical). We have a breeding to Richard and have not used it as the mare is in very poor physical condition and we are not breeding her this year. We have seen his offspring and love them as well. Both stallions produce athletic offspring for any discipline you would like.
I have a two year old gelding by Mannhattan who is an absolute doll. His dam was a hot Trakehner mare. My gelding is so calm and quiet. Introducing new things has been so easy. He is the most quiet foal I have ever had. His canter is amazing. I haven’t free jumped him yet, but I suspect he’s going to be good at it.
