Just bought an in-utero foal in the Netherlands. Very excited but also a little worried since I’m in the US. Looking for recommendations on foaling facilities in the Netherlands where the mare can foal out and the baby can grow up for a few years. Not planning on importing it for several years so want to get it set up somewhere safe where it will be well cared for and handled. Any recommendations or referrals appreciated!
Presumably the mare is located in an appropriate breeding facility? Why not simply leave her there?
The facility she is at is moving so needing to find a different facility.
Our mares/foals are in the Netherlands. They’re not at not an official breeding facility (it’s a professional jumper barn but they are close friends of ours so they keep our horses), but they have close connections with some breeding barns. I can call them and ask if they have any recommendations. Also happy to help with shipper recommendations. It’s sometimes a bit hectic living in the US but having your breeding operation overseas, but we have learned a ton in our first year doing this!
When is the mare due? And do you know where in the Netherlands she is currently? Is the embryo sexed? I only ask that because it’s something to think about down the road. If it’s a colt and you want to keep him intact for some time, it’s slightly tricky finding a place that will take him. Some of the places we looked at wanted ours gelded by 18 months of age.
I would very much appreciate it if you could ask your friends for any recommendations! The mare is due beginning of June and is currently located in Helenaveen. The embryo was not sexed unfortunately. You can PM over any info you have. Thank you so much!
