Asking for a friend whose horse had a bad pasture accident. Horse is at the equine hospital in Leesburg, VA and will need to stay at a rehab facility. I knew a great place in Berryville, but they apparently have moved out of the area. I’m not quite sure what the horse will require - I’m sure stall/limited turnout initially as was a puncture wound. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Always There Horse Care in Nokesville is run by a vet tech and recommended by Leesburg: http://www.alwaystherehorsecare.com/. Caveat: I haven’t actually had a horse stay there but I emailed back and forth with Malena about my young horse several times this past year and she was super nice and responsive. It’s $40/day including hand grazing and twice daily meds.
I HIGHLY recommend Hunt Valley Equestrian Center 37947 Morrisonville Rd, Lovettsville, VA. 540-668-7068 (Pat Matthews-mother, Tracey Matthews-daughter 571-212-9769).
Opie stayed at Hunt Valley for 6 1/2 months in 2017 after she was discharged from a three week stay at Leesburg. She was a complex case and she threw lots of curve balls at us, but the staff at Hunt Valley were EXCELLENT and very accommodating in providing her and me with personalized care. She had extensive wound care, dressing changes, medications, feeding, hand walking and turnout regimens. Pat, Tracey, Claudio, Armando and the borders were a lifesaver for me - very good with communications any changes or concerns, and always available to listen or help out.
It is a short 20 minute drive to the hospital, so it is easy to get there for follow up appointments.
