It is time for me to relocate closer to family in the Buffalo/Rochester area within the next year. I am scheduling a trip back in 2 weeks to begin to visit the various communities and evaluate potential barns and programs. I am primarily dressage and believe in cross training so a place with jumps is not a deal breaker. I would appreciate any suggestions. If it is a place to avoid, then please PM me. TIA
sent you PM
Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Center in Gasport is one you might like to check out
Thank you!
Western New York Dressage Association keeps a decent list on their website.
Susan Gilson is phenomenal and the best in the area. If you prefer an onsite trainer, Megan Boss is fabulous and has her own barn/program (also works with Susan too I believe).
I PM-ed you
Megan Boss and Susan Gilson are both East of Rochester, but also travel. I’ve worked with both and would recommend. Carrie Wehle (dressage/eventing) is another option in the central ROC area.
If you’re looking on the West side of Rochester:
Agree with the recommendation to check out Chestnut Ridge. Kim Preston also offers boarding and training out of Spencerport.
Hasty Hills (Jaime and Becky Bates) is primarily H/J but might be worth a look if you want something closer to Buffalo.
Great program and great people, but they are exclusively a h/j show/sales barn.
