1kg = 2.2lb
To convert from kg to lb, multiply by 2.2
To convert from lb to kg, divide by 2.2
500kg = 1100lb
.5kg per 100kg is then 1.1lb per 220lb
To convert all this to pounds, take your horse’s weight and divide by 220, then multiply that by 1.1 to get the total pounds to feed.
For a 1250lb horse, that’s 1250/220=5.68, x 1.1 = 6.25lb of feed
The 2.2 conversion number is really important to memorize for your (general) knowledge so you have more educated info on what you’re feeding, as it makes pretty much all of this easier.
Even in the US, trace minerals are required to be listed in ppm, which is mg/kg. To find out how many mg of,say, copper, you’re feeding in the 6lb of feed, you have to convert ppm to mg/lb OR convert your 6lb of feed to kg of feed.
I find it easiest to divide ppm by 2.2 to get mg/lb, then obviously multiply by the pounds you’re feeding, or divide into ounces of that’s the amount fed
