Rec's needed: Young horse pasture board in Calgary, AB

I have a 2017 Checkmate filly that is currently at the breeder’s farm between Edmonton & Calgary, AB, but I will be needing to move her to a new facility in September and I live in Seattle, WA. I would love to keep her in the Calgary area until next summer, instead of ship her down to the Seattle area. She needs time and space to grow up, and the Seattle area is not exactly the most spacious and you definitely pay premium prices for the space that is available.

Does anyone have recommendations for young horse boarding around Calgary? Extra plus if they have a reputable colt-starting program/person as an option for next year, but not necessary. Feel free to PM me – thanks in advance!

They bring in a colt starter that’s done a bunch of young horses I’ve ridden and they’ve all been fantastic.

Horizon Equestrian Centre in Cochrane has board for young horses and are excellent at starting horses through groundwork, lunging and driving. They currently have 2 yearlings as well so your filly would have friends!

This is where I was going to suggest as well…yes it’s about an hour North of Calgary but they’ll look after everything. A lady at my barn uses them for her horse that’s on a year of turnout while he can’t be ridden after an injury and just needs to “be a horse in a field” and he’s doing fabulous. They organize all vet, farrier etc and are priced very very reasonable!
