Rectal wind sucking

We have a TB mare who is no longer racing but when she is worked strenuously, sucks wind into her rectum. She has had caslick’s so that’s not the issue. Has anyone at the track had horses who also do this. Is there anything we can do to prevent her from doing this?

Thanks!

Her rectum? or her vagina…caslicks is for the Vulva not her rectum???

Have seen a few and that is why this product is made: http://www.protectohorse.com/bplugg.pdf although I have no idea how it would work unless you put a crupper on the saddle.

Once upon a time there was a horse I rode with that had had a baby and foaling was poor, and apparently vets were few and the mare did suck wind into her rectum, but there was little distinction between the rectum and her lady parts

No this is rectum. I mentioned the caslicks so that people didn’t assume I was talking about her lady parts and suggest that we have the caslicks done.

The Butt Plug? Excuse me while I act like a teenager for a moment…

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH…HAHAHAH.

I just can’t take this product seriously with a name like that!

carry on…

Ginger salve might help. I have a mare who does it and I tie her tail forward, you could hook it to a backwards D-ring on your girth…all you need it a 6 foot section of clothesline (I get mine at the local hardware store) and a D-ring snap. Tie the two ends of the clothes line to the snap (I tape over the knot) and braid it into her tail starting about 3 inches below the tailbone, then tie it off at the bottom. Pull her tail through her hind legs and attach to the D-ring on the girth.

What’s the underlying anatomy causing this? I’d run it by a vet, in case it’s a symptom of something more serious or perhaps something that could be fixed (like a hemorrhoid or something like that).
