Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, UT

My hubby and I are planning on doing a ride around St. George, UT on our way home from Arizona. This place looks to have lots of great trails but requires dogs to be on a leash. The thought of a dog on a leash while riding seems like a no brainer.

Anyone have any suggestions for other trails for that area?

Thanks,
Nancy

My 2018 video starts out with us riding at the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. I’ve never worried about dogs on leashes while riding in the reserve, You can see the video at https://youtu.be/ihaIWGC5iT4

While in St George, Check out Red Mountain ( Snow Canyon over Look) and you can do the Gila Trail into Snow Canyon State Park ( that does prohibit dogs on that trail) You can wander out near Gunlock Reservoir No trails, buts lots of area to ride. I’ve also ridden up Coal Pit wash in Zion and follow the Scoggins Stock trail up onto the higher plateau. The Trail into Hop Valley is beautiful, But it’s at 6,000 foot and can get icy or packed snow if the weather has dumped much snow in the area. Same for the Lee’s Pass trail down to Kolob arch also in Zion. No Dogs in National Parks.

Lots of just wandering in the desert out east of Leeds ( frontage road along I-15 about a mile north of Leeds exit, there is a gravel road heading east. It has 3 parking areas that you can trail head from. Commache Ditch Trail in New Harmony is a steady climb and gets up around 8200 foot. So snow is a definite possibility.

Thank you Painted Horse.
