My horse seems to be suffering from seasonal headshaker’s syndrome. It doesn’t affect him while under saddle or working (which is odd), mainly just while he is at rest and in a relaxed state. In case our current course of action doesn’t seem to help him improve, has anyone invested in a Red Light Therapy poll cap for their horse and seen improvements of their symptoms with daily use? It seems like a great idea and there are a few reputable brands out there that I can make work with my wallet, but I was hoping to hear other people’s experiences or brand recommendations before making that investment. I’m interested in hearing about all experiences with a poll cap, regardless of what you were using it to treat. Thank you!
I have a red light rectangle pad that I rig to fit on my horses poll and on his back. Horse loves it. Like falls asleep, licks, chews, eyes get soft loves it.
I use it 3-4x a week.
What kind do you have?
Mine is a battery powered Hooga brand.
I have two thoughts this morning on this. One, I just heard a Huberman Lab podcast w a board certified internist at Loma Linda and he talked about red light therapy being absolutely legit. Just saying that for all those out there (like my husband) who thinks it’s voodoo. I have a RevitaVet system and have been using one of the small pads on my shoulder - a recent injury causing horrific pain that in a couple weeks is gone.
Have also been getting acupuncture AND resting it. So… but thought of this thread when I came across this article and thought it would be helpful too. Electroacupuncture for head shaking:
