fannyeaton - I ride at Redfield as well. Emil heads the main show/sales/training program and owns the farm, and Ashley (who I ride with) runs the local/at home program. Emil does all the big shows (Ocala all winter, lots of HITS, Kentucky, Lake Placid, all the indoors) and is on the road a lot. Ashley does mostly local one-day shows and teaches lessons at home, but we do go to a few week-long shows each year (this past year Garden State and a couple HITS in Saugerties).
If you ride/show with Emil, I think you’d need to lease/own your own horse, but it’d be worth talking to him about it as he’s great and super accommodating with options and always has tons of lovely, lovely horses around as the sales program is very active so you never know! Ashley has all types lesson horses (most of which are show quality and can clean up at the locals), plus many of those of us in her program lease/own horses and show at all levels from mini-stirrup to big eq. She does show leases on lesson horses if you want to show, and she does have some horses which have been half-leased. I’ve been riding with Ashley for about a year and a half, started out taking lessons, started showing lesson horses, leased a horse, then bought. I live in NYC and commute out with a few friends who also ride there. We all love it!
Happy to provide more information if you have questions (especially about the lesson/local program), though Kat can provide more information on riding and showing with Emil himself!
