Region 3 Regionals

I have spent the last three days watching various classes at the Region 3 Championships.

Iberian and Friesians did well in musical freestyles and an Iberian won the 3rd level AA championship. An Iberian came second in the GP open Championship today.
Yes there were lots of leggy warmbloods… but it was not a foregone conclusion that they would win .

Perhaps attitudes are changing.
More classes tomorrow.

I think there are some nice Morgans there. Have you seen any?

Frankly Im not good at picking breeds except the obvious ones… If you go to fox village you can see the horses’ names… maybe you’d recognize a breeder
's letters after the name (I have no idea what that is called… postscript?)

I do know a Freisian took 6th or 7th in a HUGE Open 3rd level championship.

I’ve generally heard it referred to as the suffix. It is basically a marketing tool originated by breeders - esp. in the U.S., although it is starting to catch on in Europe, too. But it doesn’t always indicate the breeder - there are some folks who add their own initials to the name of an imported horse - esp. one who doesn’t already have a breeder suffix. The latter is a practice that many breeders frown upon because they feel the importer is unethically trying to insinuate that he/she actually bred the horse.

if the show used Fox Village for scoring and management you can look up the horse in the database and see the information if provided by owner ( breed /sire/dam/breeder)

That is a handy tool, but you have to look at each horse individually to see what horse data has been entered. Makes it a bit more difficult to sift through.

I am not a big fan of the Horse Show Office application, but it does make it much easier to see the horse data. Here is an example from a recent show. This was a large class at a Regional Championships - some 50-odd competitors - and it was interesting to note that an Appy finished in 10th place, and a PRE finished in 11th place, ahead of a good number of “the usual suspects” (Hanoverian, Dutch WB, Oldenburg, etc.).
