The way it turned out was that Jimmy Williams of Flintridge fame and/or disrepute lived a long and full life, getting his own way in most things throughout. He was revered in his horse community. He had many trophies and his students had even more. Things were named after him. Including some of the perennial trophies.

He sexually harrassed and assaulted more young girls than we will probably ever know. In an era when the blame usually went to the girl. And silence and a blind eye were the way.

Accountability didn’t come until years after his death. He never knew that he was outed, that his name is mud, now. As they say.

That’s how it turned out.

Now, present day: Tom Navarro.

I am constantly dismayed that people of the public who will say all of the right things, nonetheless in their actions continue the ancient traditions of permissiveness of this behavior, followed by dismissing, ignoring, blaming the victims, and maintaining silence.

It would seem that not as much has changed as we would like to think.

At least people are posting his name and not initials. That is one small step in the right direction – making a dirt bag searchable. Sincere thanks to all who have done their part to help with that.

Tom Navarro has cultivated many local friends and supporters, through his children’s barn, so the only counter to that is to get the case information and original charges from his sex offense case in NY - not the charges he plea bargained to - and make it openly known, along with his documented residence history at various children’s riding stables, that he has engaged in predatory behavior. Even then, it might not make the slightest difference, as many simply don’t seem to care at all.

I grew up riding off and on at Flintridge as a teen and as a young adult and had numerous interactions with Jimmy Williams. Fortunately, my trainer at the time was one of his many former paramours so she educated us early on and kept us girls from his grasp.

Still didn’t keep him from saying to me at a show that I was pretty with a nice smile and that ___________ (my former trainer), “was a good horsewoman and also good when the sun went down.”

So yeah, he was a lecherous creep of major proportions. Everyone just tended to look the other way because He Was So Great ( ) and even if the vile things he did to Gigi and Anne were brought out into the open at the time I’m certain they would’ve been dismissed with equal doses of victim blaming and earnest sweeping under the proverbial rug.

I completely agree.

Is history going to repeat with Tom Navarro?

Probably. I see his farm advertised all over the place for lessons/boarding/camp.
