Registering Irish Sport Horse Filly Help?

I hope this is the right place to post this! I just recently purchased my dream filly and I’m so in love. But its time for me to start thinking about getting her registered in all the appropriate places. I know about the IDHS and have started the paperwork on that but what about the others? She will eventually be my (hopefully) hunter mount and possibly way down the line broodmare so I want to make sure I register her in everything that I will need. I’ve never gone through the process of registering before and was hoping someone the breeding gurus would share some knowledge on this subject

And a picture because I can’t help but show her off.

Try ISH. Maybe you can contact Sheila O’Keefe of Tranquility Farm and find out how she registered her horse with ISH registry. She has some really nice ISH (Irish Sportshorse) mares in her farm.

She is cute. What is her breeding? I don’t know where you are located, but you can check the website or Facebook for the Irish Draught Horse Society of America for contact names. Sue Rowden is our area chairperson and I’m sure she can help you figure out the paperwork. I think she is at the inspections in Ocala right now. PM me if you have trouble finding someone to help you and I will email her.

I’ll see about calling someone from one of those organizations = ) I’m more confused about how it’ll work with the USEF and USJHA stuff. Her sire is Silver Galtee (Silver Granite x Galtee Maid) and her dam is a lovely TBx not sure of her breeding though.

Other than American WB, I don’t know of any registries outside of IDHSNA. With IDHSNA registration, you might be able to get foals into a lower book of some of the registries if you use an approved stallion. And with inspection/approval, foals can be registered as IDSH

Are you talking about registering (as with a breed) or getting approvals for breeding, or recording her with USEF and other sport associations?

Typically a horse can only be registered with one or a small handfull of registries.

What books will accept her for breeding depends largely upon her registry/pedigree.

Recording in USEF/USHJA/USDF/USEA etc is just a matter of filling out the forms (usually online) and paying the appropriate fees. It can be done at any time. Mine typically get this done in the middle of the night when I finally decide it’s time to enter them in a show that requires the enrollment since there is generally no benefit to enrolling early…

You can also register her with the PHR if you want to be eligible for Silver Stirrup awards.

Regardless of which breed registry you decide on, I would get her USEF lifetime recording before the end of the year. Only $35 if done during their birth year.

And, FGS, microchip her and send the chip number with the lifetime recording.

Silver Galtee is an approved Irish Draught Sport Horse stallion, RIDSH, because he is approved your foal can be registered easily with the IDHSNA. The pedigree of the dam does not matter and she does not need to be approved. Registry is based on the IDSHNA approved parent which can be either or both dam and sire. The foal must have 1/8th approved Irish Draught blood so the society approves for breeding IDSH who are 1/4 or more ID blood. In this case the foal is not eligible to be approved or registered with Horse Sport Ireland as neither parent is approved with HSI. HSI is really not very interested in being a registration entity for Irish Sport Horses outside of Ireland and they offer no approvals for ISH outside of Ireland. At one point one stallion owner brought a team of inspectors over to inspect one Irish Draught stallion…who was approved. The inspectors the Irish Draught Horses Society North America and Canada bring over are from the HSI but they don’t inspect ISH according to HSI protocol…they are approving ID according to their protocol in Canada but not yet in the US. The inspectors we use(IDSHNA) are still inspecting in the old protocol. They do inspect the IDSH for the IDHSNA and Canada but the result is not recognized in Ireland. There is a recognition award in the Society for achievement in various sports. PatO

The ISH Studbook does NOT require that either the stallion or the dam of the foal be approved. Under rules approved in June 2012 the ISH Studbook will give a green ISH passport to any foal sired by a stallion born into a studbook that is a member of the WBFSH. (Note: I did not write “approved by a studbook that is a member of the WBFSH”; I wrote “born into”.) So breed your mare to a three legged, three eyed stallion born into the (insert studbook name here) Studbook, which is a member of the WBFSH, and your foal will get a green ISH passport.

The ISH Studbook will also issue a green passport to any foal sired by a stallion born into any studbook that is approved by the Irish Minister of Agriculture. So if you cross your Irish Miniature stallion with your Irish Appaloosa mare the resulting foal can be registered by the ISH Studbook and receive a green passport. The stallion does not have to be approved and the mare does not have to be approved.
