I am debating wether to register my coming 2 yr old and coming yearling in PHR and Silver Stirrup awards… they both offer awards for the Hunter Breeding and Dressage breeding programs… but neither seem to have had very many (if any) horses registered in those divisions the last few years… so is it worth it? Anyone know what the awards are… or are they just more ribbons? (dont get me wrong… I love my ribbons ;-))
They are ribbons. It is a worthwhile thing to sign your horses up and encourage others to do the same. American breeders should take advantage of this.

Kind of how I felt about it, I love my ribbons, and its just something to add to their resume… And the price isn’t too bad, unfortunately I had issues with my yearling filly last year because they wanted actual registration papers to put her in PHR (wouldnt accept the paper I got at inspection) and I didn’t receive that until september… I emailed them yesterday and hopefully will receive a response to fix this issue…
You should absolutely sign up for PHR, for the above mentioned reason. It showcases and supports american breeding. The prize you get shouldn’t matter, after all hunter breeding should be about future performance not about how pretty they stand in the ring.
When I sold my filly I included USEF, PHR, and silver stirrup registration. USEF was lifetime of course, the other 2 just for the year.
BaysoffourLives… did your PHR registration actually go through, as I know your filly is RPSI?
I haven’t heard otherwise. My coming 2 year old colt was signed up PHR his yearling year and he’s BWP.
Gotcha, I registered my yearling RPSI filly, and got an email come around june saying she wasnt PHR because I didnt provide official registration papers they couldnt register her… though I provided what was given to me at the inspection… guess we shall wait and see!
I don’t have any recent PHR horses, but I would choose it if I could. Unlike many registries which require yearly fees, it’s a lifetime–you save a lot of money. They also used to give good prizes. I have a nice wood coat hanger with a mirror hanging by my door, and I still use my PHR heavy duty nylon bag.
I do not like ribbons, trophies and coolers. I want stuff I can use as prizes.
Agreed, I dont like trophies, but I like the ribbons as I make shadowboxes with them, but as for prizes I agree, love usable items, but then again I use the coolers I win ;-)… but I have some nice coat bags, boot bags, that I love that I’ve won as some awards, well hopefully I can get the colt registered this year :-).
