Registry help! Selle Francais Sire, Zangersheide dam

Very long story, but to give the very abbreviated version, my husband owns a foal who is out of the Zangersheide mare, Alliance (by Amadeus Z), see below:

And by the Selle Francaise stallions Kaiser de la Cour:

Now, I am not a breeder and I know nothing about it, I inherited this horse when I got married last year.

So, I have no idea what studbooks, if any, the sire or dam are approved to, I just know what they were each registered with. So how can I go about getting the foal registered with one of the European books? I thought there would be a searchable database with the Zangersheides to see if the mare was even approved to breed, but can’t find such a thing. Same with the Selle Francais and the stud so I’m at a loss.

I wanted to get the foal branded with one of the European studbooks bc although I am not a breeder, I am a seller, and know all too well how much that silly little brand helps one to sell and justifies a higher price.

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

I’d contact Mill Creek regarding the stallion’s approved registries

But you’ll have considerable difficulty registering the foal anywhere if the mare has not been approved and DNA-typed by a breed registry. Without that information, I don’t believe it will be possible to register the foal, although it would be possible to have it approved for breeding purposes by some organizations (which would not get you a brand).

If I remember correctly (which is a big if), Zangersheide is the German wing of RPSI, and may be able to tell you whether the mare is approved for breeding.

This is not correct. Zangersheide is a performance studbook started by Leon Melchior in 1992 and is based out of Belgium. It has nothing to do with German studbooks at all other than the fact that most of the blood that the Melchiors bred with/breed with is German (with some French of course).

Zangersheide is very difficult to contact digitally in my experience (I have a Zangersheide mare in my mare band), but they are more than happy to answer any questions by phone (call them on skype if you don’t have an international long distance plan).

Honestly if Zangershiede ever came to the USA you could very easily register the foal with them and get the Z brand if the father was licensed under a studbook recognized by WBFSH. So, ideally, find out if he is licensed and then call Zangersheide.

Yeah, my mistake  Zweibruckers are the German RPSI.

You might want to try Oldenburg (OHBS/GOV). They are the official arm of the Oldenburg Verband in North America, and it seems I remember hearing about a Kaiser de la Cour foal at one of their inspections a few years ago. Website is oldenburghorse.com - go to the Contact page, and get in touch with Emily in the office in Canada.

But basically, the dam would have to be approved into one of the Oldenburg mare books, and the sire either “officially” approved, or eligible for a breeding allowance, in order for the foal to get full registration papers.

Sire does not appear to be approved with the Selle Francais registry. He is registered SF but no DNA on file. http://harasire.haras-nationaux.fr/HARASIRE/consultation/chevaux/info_generales/contenu_info_generales.jsp?SrcPage=liste&CheNucheval=wzqhrndl
