Registry Questions!

Hey Guys,

Sorry, i’m totally clueless and unfamiliar with the ins and outs of sporthorse registries.

Mare in question is a registered Belgian Warmblood by Torino. What is the best/most efficient way to see whether or not she’s approved for certain (Dutch, Hanoverian, Oldenburg) stud books? Does she always have to go through inspections or are (in some cases) her sire’s bloodlines good enough to be automatically approved? Is automatic approval even a thing that exists?

Thank you guys so much for any information or explanation! Educate me!

Torino was only approved BWP, so I think for everyone but KWPN and BWP(?), stallions permitting, she would need to be inspected.

BWP/NAD (info@belgianwarmblood.com) could check the database to see if she’s in the Main Studbook. Send her BWP name, sire, damsire or UELN. She can be registered in the foal book and not have gone through a mare inspection, mares 3+ years old can be inspected for breeding. In the case that she’s not in the Main Studbook she’d still need to be inspected by BWP.

I would imagine the other North American branches of the above registries could find out for you too. Send me a PM if you have any other questions regarding BWP.

Wanted to edit to add: The BWP is an open Studbook, an outside stallion (see: http://www.belgianwarmblood.com/foal-inspection-registration/) is fine to breed to, you just have to check with the registry that they meet the requirements. if you have your heart set on a particular stallion for your mare.

As @cgray0983 said, being a registered mare doesn’t make her approved for breeding. I’d start by reaching to the Belgian registry to see if she is approved there.

As long as she has her BWP foalbook papers, she could produce SBS (Belgian Sport Horse) foals without being inspected.
