Rein Suggestions

Hi all!
I need a new set of reins as my current set is just too long and are getting worn out. They were a cheap $12 pair bought on eBay about 2 years ago. I am wanting to buy a nicer set that come in cob or even pony. I do not like webbed - I am open to rubber but have yet to find a set of rubber reins as soft and flexible as regular laced reins. I need something thin and prefer a soft rein.

Im looking at Hinterland (not sure if their 52” cob is short enough), Thinline (not sure about durability or use during winter and thickness), and Jefferies Bio Grip (unsure about softness).

My absolute favorites are the Nunn Finer Soft Grip reins. I had them in pony size for my large pony jumper and have used them on a surprising number of other horses. I believe they were 48"

It sounds like the Nunn Finer Soft Grip reins are exactly what you are looking for, as silver_charm suggested. They are very flexible (more than braided reins). I personally don’t like them because the horses I have been riding lately can be heavy in the bridle, and I don’t find these to be particularly easy for conveying an assertive half halt. They can also be a little slippery without gloves.

I have the Thinline reins, and while I do like them, they are decidedly NOT thin. Way thicker than the rubber “Eventa” reins I’ve got on my jumping bridle.

All the pairs I have had come with buckles, not stud/hook.

I also really like thin reins - PS of Sweden makes nice, super thin, rubber reins! I think they’re now available in hook, or buckle, and multiple sizes, including pony. I didn’t end up keeping mine, because their older brown color didn’t match my bridle, but they now make them in chocolate and black.

Not sure if you’re looking to stay around that budget, but my favorites are my Dyon rubber reins and second favorite are my CWD web reins. Both can be had for less than sticker price if you look around and hold up wonderfully! I stick the web reins in the washing machine.

I despise buckle ended things - I like all my things to match and those things can be tricky to undo!
I have no set budget. Thanks for all the suggestions thus far!

The black oak pebble grip reins (https://marystack.com/kl-select-black-oak-pebble-grip-reins/) are almost the exact same as the Nunn Finer but have hook stud ends. I have had them for about two years and they are holding up great, super flexible and grippy.

ThinLine has a new style of thinner reins. I used to have some lovely Exselle rubber reins with stoppers that were thin and flexible, and lovely in both bare hands or with gloves. They sadly got stolen, but they were the only rubber reins I have ever truly liked. And they had hook stud bit ends too.

Love my Nunn Finer softy rubber reins. I have the pony size and they are a perfect fit in my hands, I do need to get new reins since I want stops and this version doesn’t have stops.☹️ I’m looking at the softy reins from PS of Sweden.

Check out the Prestige Renaissance Collection reins - it is a new collection they made with Frederic Butet and they have several options. We saw them in person at the Kentucky Three Day event and my sister ended up buying a pair instead of the Dyon ones she thought she was going to get. I love my plaited reins. In brown leather with hook stud ends. If needed I slip on rubber rein stops.
