Reining or Working Cow Lessons in Denver Area

Hello COTH! I’m a college student spending my first summer in the Denver area. In the past few years I haven’t ridden much due to being a college student whose horse is retired and back home, but with my summer job it’s a very real possibility that I’ll be able to afford some lessons. I’ve always ridden english and showed in hunter/jumper land in recent years, but when I was younger I did over fences classes on the AQHA circuit. I had so much fun watching the reining and working cow classes and I think it would be great fun (not to mention good for my mind/body) to learn a new style of riding.

Any Denver peeps out there know of any good places that would offer lessons and have a horse for me to ride? Parker area would probably be ideal as my summer job is in Lone Tree.

Look thru this web site and maybe call/email them, see what they can tell you:

Steve Schwarzenberger is a top reining trainer and may be in Katy, TX at the NRBC this week and so may be others, so be patient if they don’t get back to you right away.

Look at their show schedule and try to go watch them and contact those that you like best, they may be able to accommodate you or refer you to someone that is good for what you need.

You can also check out the Colorado Reined Cowhorse Association. They have a trainer page and you can call trainers to ask about lessons.

I would try Devin Warren, Shane Brown, and Darren Miller, in that order. All reasonably close to Lone Tree.

Here is a tip to start off right: When you are driving your car and come to a red light, tuck your seat, sit back on your pockets and say whoa. Make the seat tucking and sitting back a habit.

Colo Horse Park just south of Parker ramps up in June - really nice place for major H-J shows

Thank you for all the great resources and suggestions!! I’ll definitely look into each and every one.

Guy Vernon…out in Elizabeth or Kiowa. It’s been a while. Meanwhile,
south side of Denver is hunter-jumper-dressage heaven. Moved to Denver from
Chicago and was surprised at the number of English riding facilities in the area.
