Do reining shows ever have multiple judges? As in two or three judges judging at the same time? If so, is there a protocol? I’ve searched the NRHA book a few times and couldn’t ever find anything.
Thanks!

yes they do have multiple judges, center and then to the right and to the left of the judge in the center
I know in the bigger shows, yes they’ll be double judged, and the futurity has I think 5 judges, where the highest and lowest scores are dropped.
I found this in the Show Rules and Regulations under the “Event Approval” (G(7)) category:
A single judge may be used for NRHA approved classes thatdo not qualify for a Lawson Trophy. At least two (2) chair judgesmust be used in all NRHA approved classes with $2,000–$9,999 in added money. At least three (3) chair judges are recommended, but a minimum of two (2) chair judges are required, for all NRHA approved classes with $10,000–$49,999 in added money. Five (5) chair judges are recommended, but a minimum of three (3) chair judges are required, for all NRHA approved classes with $50,000 or more in added money.
Kewplace has got it right on what determines how many judges are used however a couple shows we go to always use 2 judges even if the money is less than $2,000 added.
A lot of times having two judges keeps them both honest. A judge that might lean to being a little biased toward a competitor will keep it less political when they know their score is going to sit side by side with the other judges score.
And correct, at the Futurity, the derby and the nrbc along with maybe high roller and some others, there are 5 judges. They drop your friend and enemy and leave you with the 3 middle scores.
You all are wonderful, thank you
