I am moving to Flagstaff later thisyear. I want to start looking at and visiting boarding barns. I can consider outlying areas,too, such as Prescott.
I would like a barn with access to trails or areas for hacking out. My horse prefers pasture board. I hope to find a community of horse people to ride with.
I hope to do low level dressage and eventing with a new horse to buy or lease while keeping my senior guy. Interested in the Grand Canyon Hounds Fox hunt too.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I’m a lot further South, but have you checked into the Arizona Dressage Association and some of the advertising in their monthly newsletter? Also Arizona Horse Connection magazine based in Chino Valley as well as Bridle & Bit where boarding and training facilities advertise.

I don’t know all the eventing clubs, but the Coconino Fairgrounds in Flagstaff have the biggest AZ events over a two week stretch in the summer, plus some other events/horse trials. Tucson isn’t too far to drive even, if you want, and of course Phoenix is closer. Eventer in AZ do frequent other states as well, and Rebecca Farms is a favorite to at least go watch for many.
Dressage -wise, we’ve got shows in August up there, and shows throughput the state.
I don’t know a lot of trainer’s up there, have just met a few people from the area. CERT gave some good suggestions.
I don’t know of any pure dressage trainer or stable based in Flagstaff. But there might be someone who teaches eventing and manages a barn. And there also might be someone who does dressage that I don’t know of, especially if they don’t come to shows in the Phoenix area.
This trainer used to live in Flagstaff but is now based in NE Scottsdale. She still knows a lot of people up there, and she will have knowledge of the barns and people in up that way.

There are a couple of active dressage trainers in Prescott which is about an hour and 15 min south of Flagstaff. This one, who goes by Gina, is from Germany and has a very nice barn there. She knows a lot of Flagstaff people too, and is a good person to ask. I believe she has had at least one client in her barn based in Flag if not more. If you were home-based on the South or West side of Flag, then boarding in Prescott might not be out of the question. But the roads do get closed in the Winters at least once or twice and can be nasty and near to being closed much more often than that.

Flagstaff is simply beautiful, and Coconino was my favorite event, worth the 10-12 hour drive when I lived in Lubbock. I know you’ll find some good barns there. Have all the fun!
