I am relocating to the Washington, CT area and looking for a place to board my horse nearby. I’m coming from an area with a ton of H/J barns and having a tough time finding anything out here. I do the A/O jumpers (~1.30m), so I’m hoping I can find a barn with a trainer that has experience at that level and does the bigger shows in the area (Old Salem, Saugerties, etc). Does anyone have a place they can recommend?
My info for that area is vague and out of date but you could try contacting David Hopper of Longreen Farm in Amenia, NY, about a half hour from Washington, and ask him for tips. He knows all and is always helpful.
Riverstone & Kim Perlman are roughly 35 minutes from Washington CT, they do the larger shows and Ocala in the winter
Cindy Steinman Italiander is at Fox Crossing Equestrain in Morris, right next door to Washington, I don’t know her personally but have heard good things.
I travel 2 hours each way to Massachusetts for my trainer who also does the larger shows and Ocala in the winter (pm me for details…there are many reasons I travel so far to her!)
I’ve met Cindy at Fox Crossing and was impressed by her operation and her professionalism.
This brings back memories. I bought my first horse from David and Ira in 1968!
Off the top of my head:
Seahorse Stables (at Red Gate Farm)
Stony Lane in Newtown
Nautilus Farm in Redding
Washington is also relatively close to the NY border, so you could look at the barns around the Brewster area and similar. There are quite a few to choose from.
I would also check out Halycon Stables in Litchfield, they are excellent.
That’s an impressive website, I especially like the pool and tennis courts too! Sounds a bit like Fairfield but fancier.
Hi and Welcome! We live in Woodbury and my husband works in Washington Depot. Look at Halcyon in Litchfield and also Justamere Pony Farm in Ridgefield. I’d definitely recommend speaking with and visiting both places.
