Remember when....

Remember this past hunt season, when we were all bemoaning the best way to stop iceballs, how to stay warm, to ride or not to ride in the mud or if it was too cold…

Right now, I’m missing those days…

This heat SUCKS!..

and to think I used to consider myself a warm weather person…

I can’t STAND the heat and humidity, either, but … we’re still having a great time on summer hound walk!

Off topic, Hounds, but what are those yellow hounds in your summer hound walk pics? I’ve never seen those before.

Our hounds are English and Crossbred, and most of them are white or lemon and white, I guess you’d call them. Many of the ones you can see in the pictures on that post are from our current group of puppies out of Baffle, who came to us from the Cottesmore. Those puppies are by their Stampede '06.

We have one other puppy this year named Driver, who is tri-color, out of a North Cotswold bitch named Dragonfly. He’s by Duke of Beaufort’s Gaddesby '07.

Which is probably more information than you wanted!

How is Mr. Box?

Yes, I remember last winter. How can I forget? I’m still trying to lose the weight I gained sitting around waiting for spring.

Mr. Box is doing great! He says hello. He’s also trying to lose weight, but he doesn’t know it. He’s still a pudge.

“Mr. Box.”

ha ha ha
That sounds like Trollope.

Now, now, this heat and humidty shall pass!! I’m sad seeing the days become shorter. :frowning: Peppermint Schnapps on ice is your friend right now, trust me.

And I don’t a have new horse bought to hunt this year so I’m in no hurry to get the email “cubbing begins on X day.” Our hunt is roading hounds now so I am getting my fix hearing the pack each time I pull into the kennel yard. I never get tired of hearing hound voices. It is an instant replay to being a young Pony Club girl in 1970 and hunting with the Tryon Hounds.

I haven’t gone foxhunting since I was a child (sad to remember how many decades ago that was!) but I loved reading and watching your summer hound walk.

Another good friend is lemoncello and tonic over ice…(and sometimes just the lemoncello over ice with a sugar rim)…

Mr. Box

Mr. Box, not being a highly literary beagle, says, “I am not a Trollope!”

That took some explaining, which I don’t really think he ever understood.

Here he is, happy as usual:

LaurieB, I’m glad you liked the post, and maybe it will inspire you to consider getting back to hunting!

Thank heavens the season (and cooler weather) isn’t too far away now. But I still need to get my horse and myself fit …

is ded from hound kewt

I know they’re working animals, but still. Loved the video. Someday, that will be Lucky and me. Well, when we have a way to pull the trailer, find a hunt, and figure out how to carefully introduce him to the concept of “riding in company without trying to be in front by running very fast.”

And cooler weather. Heat prostration wasn’t fun. At all.

take heart, Lucky! We’ve got a lot of ex-racehorses in our hunt field. They learn fast!

Hounds, those are cool dogs! It’s funny how different the pack looks when they’re all light colored like that. I found it much easier to pick out individuals, which got me thinking about African Wild Dogs and how they must use their multi-color coat patterns both as camouflage and to confuse their prey. Which made me wonder if that’s why the tri-color coat is so popular for fox hunting hounds since they also hunt in a pack.

And don’t worry, I like when people are knowledgeable and engaged animal breeders

You need to move farther south. We’re in the process of gaining our summer weight right now. Which we put on because it’s too hot to do anything but lie under the ceiling fans, g&t clutched in one hand, and moan. Which sadly doesn’t burn many calories.

But around mid-September or October, we have nine or ten lovely long months of good weather in which to lose the summer weight.

Personally, I have G&Ts so I won’t get malaria. Must work-I haven’t gotten it yet.
Not only is it HHH-hazy, hot, and humid-here, we are getting thunderboomers every evening. I was going to get both me and my mare in shape for TVH’s Intro to Foxhunting, but she has been lame for three weeks. So, I’ve been talking to Evil Pony…actually, she’s quite sweet, I just like Evil Ponies!
Oops! Thunder-time to go!

What’s dat!?

What is lemoncello? Like lemon aid? :winkgrin:Will I like it? How do I drink it? In what kind of glass? Ice? Mixed with? Where can I get some? Can I borrow yours? Will it prevent malaria? Will it add to my summer weight? Will it de-frizz my hair? Will it make me ride better?

sheeeesh…weighty subject…!

Lemoncello

It is an Italian cordial that is basically a combination of lemons, sugar and vodka. I am seen the recipes to make your own, I believe very popular in parts of Florida. The only way it would make you ride better would be to make you so relaxed that when you fell off, it wouldn’t hurt as much.

Vodka? My uncle makes it with Everclear!

It’s definitely a “sipping” drink.

(I’m actually personally a fan of blueberrycello)

  :sleepy:

We may just have found the official summer drink of Snobbington Hunt. :stuck_out_tongue:
