Well, here is the email back (I did speak with her today). I find it disappointing I can’t get selenium, copper, Vit. E dosages…and will be shopping elsewhere. But at least she explained the dosage amount error. And I like the other goodies. And how would my vet know what they have in their “hidden” ingredient quantities? It’s not like I asked for anything other manufacturers show.

As I related earlier in our phone conversation, I am relatively new in this position and am striving to become increasingly knowledgeable regarding all aspects of our products. Oh, and I was asking how much copper, selenium, vit. E as I supplement those separately, and don’t want to overdose. I can find how much of each on other supplements, I am surprised they just won’t tell me how much is in theirs. It’s not like I was asking their mix, just more info on the “yes” ingredients on the .pdf

The FDA does NOT regulate or test any ingredients in “supplements” or “nutraceuticals”. There is no requirement that they be tested and no need for them to prove any claims that it works. And nobody tests listed ingredients against what is actually in them. Even in human products.

However, a product can NOT make any claims to prevent or cure anything without incurring raised eyebrows of the FDA because at that point they put themselves into the drug category.

I like Remission well enough, but won’t use it as a Mg supplement because of the Se. If I’m using Mg, I want to be able to go as high as potentially 25mg of it, and you can’t do that without likely adding way too much Se

Being a pony breeder, we use Remission on all of our small fatties with high risk of laminitis. We have had excellent results and highly recommend the product for that purpose regardless of the exact mix in the ingredients.

Qucksilverpony…question. I use it on my rescue minis…do you use the whole horse dose on a pony so they get what is listed (which is per 1,000 lbs) or do you adjust for weight? I do like it too, but that is not my point.

Whatever happened to the chromium in Remission? Didn’t this product used to contain 15mg of chromium (or something like that)? At one time it was thought chromium supplementation helped with IR.

My question too. I just grabbed a box I have here and can’t see the chromium listed anymore.
I wonder if it’s because people were complaining the chromium dosage was rather high, IIRC 5mg (?) or so.

Now if you said my very, very good veterinarian, I might be impressed. Most vets I know shrug, say it doesn’t hurt, and keeps the client happy. :lol: :lol:

Remission seems to be one of those funny little products that develops an almost cult-like following because it does what it is supposed to, and then some. Maybe the believers are being hoodwinked somehow, in the absence of scientific proof, but–if my horses are happy, I’m happy. And I’m a scientist myself, so my “independent studies” are at least guided by my training. I don’t think my observations are totally bogus.

I do think AniMed could do a little tighter job of cross-checking labeling and information about their products. But, then again, we know of feed companies that have tremendous research facilities and airtight advertising units, and are still way behind the power curve on such things as, say, NSC levels in feed. Just sayin’

I have used it on a horse that foundered with a good result. We needed to pull weight off her and in using the product, we got a thinner, happier horse. However, Tx Dept of Ag requires all such products be reviewed for whatever reason and I can no longer order it until that happens.

Well that’s confusing since they’re mixing metric with English measurement. So if I understand what they’re saying:

1ppm = 1 mg/kg. 1kg= 1000grams. There are 28.35 grams in an ounce, so 35.27 ounces/kg.

1mg/kg / 35.27 oz/kg = 1/35.27= 0.0284 mg Se/oz.

In other words, not much.

I glanced at the label. My boss had read it and did not see the info on it. I assumed she was right (I really should have know better…but that’s another story).

Here is the breakdown for those who may want to know (from another website):

I did get a letter back when I questioned the FDA regulations, and this is what the response was. Again, I should have checked it out more thoroughly:

I did reply and apologize, to a point…if they had simply said “read the label” then I would have put an end to it. Or if they had simply given me the ingredients, which are listed! But, my fault for not double-checking myself and letting others tell me…I usually don’t listen to others, but this is a nice reminder.

And I do like Remission…and would recommend it to anyone, but just don’t try to communicate with Animed without a struggle

I’m not a big fan of the company, but I do find that Remission specifically (have not used any other products) works for my horses. Quiessence did not. You may have different results, however.

The information was given to me in an email… I got curious based on others’ posts, so emailed. Got the same sort of runaround, but then got the “answer”. I was not told which fermentation product.

Like I said, crappy “nutritionists”… but the product works for my horses. shrugs

I bought a severely foundered mini at a real estate auction (he was part of the auctioned household goods - he cost more to get home that he did to buy). When I got Peanut his feet were turned-up elf shoes. His hoof wall had rotated and was growing into his sole. His toes were terribly seedy. After a year of trims he was considerable better, but still had some issues. After being put on Remission, my mini is sound. The farrier said he never thought he would ever come back like this. It’s cheap and I’ll keep Peanut on it forever.

Ive read all of these comments & concerns and would like to say i purchased 5 pounds of this product for my 17yr old gelding last fall and im getting ready to buy again, he has been turned out on grass since spring for the first time in his life, no founder or laminitis of anykind, white tail was shitty 24/7 has been pure white, hind gut was distended & is now looking great! love this product RECOMMEND
