Removing rivet nameplates

Any ideas of how to do it, preferably without damaging the leather?

I buy the majority of my tack used, and I’ve bought a few things that have nameplates already on them, which I’d like to replace with my own. Bridles, martingales, girths.

Has anyone had any luck removing these on their own, and how did you go about it?

Also, bonus question: has anyone installed a nameplate on a girth, and does it require different rivets than bridles and martingales? They’re a bit thicker, which is why I’m unsure if the standard rivets I’ve used on my other strapgoods will still work. I’m not a fan of Chicago screws, so would like to avoid those if possible.

Thanks!

If the name plate is riveted on I just drill the rivet out.

I have never put a name plate on a girth so I do not know how to do that.
