Renegades - who's used them?

My Epics are coming up on retirement status, so I’m considering whether I should buy a new set for my horse, or switch to something different.

I’m especially curious about Renegades. Has anybody on here used them? The design looks very “different” which does make me curious. I wonder how they fit, how they wear, if they rub at all…

While my Epics have served me extremely well, before I make the big investment in a new set of four, I’d like to do a little research!

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I think there have been some threads on this, which I’ve commented on, but I’ll play again.

I am very happy with my Renegades. Had some fit issues that were operator error, and no problems since. I do think they have a learning curve, and if you give up easy and don’t adjust things, they won’t work for you. It is really up to your horse’s hoof shape too, you need to measure carefully (which goes for Easy boot too)

No rubs, horse moves great, east to put on. Do almost all our miles in them (sometimes just do barefoot). More than 600 miles a year for the last couple years, one 50-mile endurance ride. I’ve almost worn my current ones tread off (since spring, many miles on this pair!), and need to order new ones.

I just started using them on my mare this summer. So far I really like them. They are super easy to put on!!! and they stay put. The only issue I’ve had so far is a little twisting in one front when she canters, but I’ve made some adjustments and it seems to be fine now. I’ve had a couple of different kinds of easy boots before and never used them much because they were a total PITA.

Renegades rule.
I had epics for a few years and they were ok, but meh. renegades are a whole new level of awesome performance.
they’ve thought of everything… they are the apple iPhone of hoofboots.

I do 25 miles a week in mine on all terrain, do cross country jumping, and arena work. you will not be disappointed.

Ah, fantastic! I do all kinds of work in the Epics, glad to hear the Renegades are up for it.

Thank, irish_horse, I’ll also look up previous threads…

How many miles do you think you got out of your Renegades for those that have them?

I got 30 or so ridew out of the pair I bought…roughly 300 or so miles, on very demanding terrain. The
easycare products last many times longer, although the Renegades are much easier to live with.

I get between 500-700 miles before the tread is gone. In that time I replace the Velcro straps, sometimes the cables, liner. Maybe $30 of replacement materials. My trails are mostly rocky dirt and granite (Tevis area.) I think it often depends on your horse too, some are harder on the boots (wearing out toes, etc).

I’ve got a pair approaching 1500 miles that the toes have small holes, I’ve replaced 1 strap and 1 cable. I plan on buying new ones in another 200 miles or so

I am a huge fan of Renegades. They are a breeze to get on and off and have never rubbed my horse. I primarily ride on desert trails, so I can’t comment about what they are like in more challenging/wetter terrain.

Just found a serious hole in a hind toe of a pair I’ve used since, I think, May–would have to check. Tread isn’t gone, but quite worn. Being able o pu t the boot on or off with one hand is kind of wonderful. I have to swear to put on easyboots.
